Foul Language

Instead of giving out random gags and short bans why doesn't CCP just use word filtering software... yes i know there are tricks to get round most of them, but at least they would be seen to be trying!

Their policy on it is ridiculous and totally ad hoc, which is crazy!

Do me a favour, click on 'people and places' and search ANY foul word or phrase and see what comes up.

If you cant think of any HERE is a list.

The link does contain foul language and there are 2 disclaimers you have to pass if you wish to view them.

haha no, but good one.

We aren't children ... now that is another point. This game is apparently aimed at children?? Hence the policy.

EvE is pretty bad for foul language, easily the worst of any MMO i've played. I've seen people spamming local with the most vile language, with added sprinkles of racism.

Bans for it seem pretty random, seems to boil down to people reporting their name. I've seen examples of people having their characters renamed for, quite frankly, hardly offensive names, whereas other players with terrible names seem to get away with it.

I've never quite understood how CCP approaches the whole thing tbh.

Post with your main, like a BOSS!

And no, i don't live in highsec.  As if that would make your opinion any less wrong.

PEGI 12

(Please don't start the fallacious argument that a rating doesn't imply target audience.)

CCP needs to either introduce some sort of filter and get serious or change the rating of the game. IMO.

+1 Cheese, I don't care to see obscenities or foul ideas while playing Eve. A better filter would clean things up considerably.

On the other hand though Eve players are pretty creative and I have seen some very perverse names that would not trip a filter.

I wonder if it would be possible to change the name of players as it appears to you. So I could change your name to "che'Monkay" and on my screen that's what would show up, but if I link your name to others then "cheese monkey" shows up. And to anyone who hadn't made a personal note about your name the default of "cheese monkey" would appear. Then people could customize the game to their own standards.

I realize there's a ton of people that you only see once in a blue moon, and this sort of thing would be counter productive that way. But when combined with a good filter it would clean up the atmosphere considerably.

With the added functionality of being able to write notes about people right in their name. For instance you could become "che'Monkey HD" to represent being a hot dropper or "che'Monkey OB" if you buy ore. I would love to have this kind of functionality in naming people, places, and things.

*As a side note, I don't care for "cheese monkey" as a name. I don't like monkeys and when used out of context "cheese" goes all over the place image wise.

Online interactions are not rated. - No, but the game is.

More like a hard fact. - getting off topic, young teenagers or children, the point stands.

CCP don't set the age rating of the game, that's done by an independent administrator under the Pan European Game Information (PEGI) content rating system, the independent administrator is the Nederlands Instituut voor de Classificatie van Audiovisuele Media (Netherlands Institute for the Classification of Audiovisual Media).

For reference PEGI has 5 ratings, none of which relate to the online content of a game.

  • 3: Suitable for ages 3 and older. May contain mild violence in an appropriate context for younger children, but no explicit language is allowed.
  • 7: Suitable for ages 7 and older. May contain mild, cartoon violence, sports, or elements that can be frightening to younger children.
  • 12: Suitable for ages 12 and older. May contain violence in a fantasy setting, coarse language, mild sexual references or innuendo, or gambling.
  • 16: Suitable for ages 16 and older. May contain explicit violence, strong language, sexual references or content, gambling, or drug use (encouragement).
  • [*] 18: Suitable for ages 18 and older. May contain graphic violence, including "violence towards defenseless people" and "multiple, motiveless killing", strong language, strong sexual content, gambling, drug use (glamorisation), or discrimination.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
