Due to massive failure on my behalf, the voting for the second shortstory competition will take place during november in the official forums. So what do you have to do?

The second post in this thread contains a list with all 40 entries. All you have to do is to press the like buttons on the entries you favour. If you want to participate in the PLEX drawing, all you have to do is make a post in this thread with your choices and the reasons for your decision. A couple of lines are enough, but the authors will really appriciate your feedback.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or criticism.

PS: A little, more explaining video *click*

edit: If you own an e-book reader, try this.

Very nice story, the beginning remindes me on a few old movies, the desperate hero, whos lost on a plant in the middle of nowhere, getting drunk. Then the bad guys come and you know, the hero is in trouble. Pitty he had to die cause I'd really appreciate another episode of this story cause it's really good.

I like Pyhrric Victory by Otto Weston.

Mainly because I like the way the battle was described and the ending was just totally brill. The last line was so gr8,

"Sure enough, they came, like demons summoned from a hidden portal, three mottled
burgundy battleships and a swarm of blotchy red cruisers emerged from their
warp and they saved Ryan and his crew, for last."

That got a laugh out of me, and it worked perfectly.

I hope everyone reads and likes mine, #33 Lifetimes Upon Lifetimes.

I gotta say my favourite (of all the others of course lol) is #14 Repurcussions of repurcussions of Evil by Chopper Rollins. I think this story was succinct, and to the point, and was steeped in the legacy of such classics as Half-Life: Full Life Consequences by the esteemed Squirrelking. I believe the author Chopper Rollins has a long and illustrious career of 4chan posts ahead of him and I look forward to following his career with interest.

While I entered this comp primarily for the board game, and in lieu of EVEs still largely untapped extraordinary potential for fiction, and would love to be a finalist, I'm going to vote for a couple of others.

I like Lelith's 'The Gank' (Entry #21) as well as Mortis' 'Catch & Release' (#39). Very well written and characterized stories.

Hi Capsuleers,

some people like to read the stories with their computer, but some doesn't.
If you have an ebook reader that can load .mobi files or when you can convert .mobi files, then you can download this:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1412454/nsup.mobi

This mobi file is made for kindle and I'm not sure how good it will work for other devices. I integrated a table of contents. This will allow you to navigate fast to the story you like to read.

Have fun with it :)

I like the fact it looks at the other side of the Capsuleer - what happens when you aren't flying around blowing ships up even though that's the main aim of EVE.

It's just a great story concept with considerable depth. A Capsuleer is virtually immortal and accountable to almost no one. That simple truth is more than enough to infuriate the lower rungs of society and we see that theme being carried over from Prime Fiction to this story. Interestingly enough, the protagonist and his corporation are also integral to the local economy.

Being a capsuleer, the protagonist had the power to annihilate that city and possibly even the planet if they angered him enough. Perhaps it was only that fine pack of cigarettes protecting these foolish mortals from total annihilation. Or maybe he isn't really that kind of guy. Who really knows? P

We have a similar situation in the real world. The mark of quality sci fi is that it makes you reflect upon reality or ideas through a fictional setting. Bravo!

I've taken the liberty to tally the current set of votes. Not because my story is winning, in fact it's in 10th in the tally, just because I feel everyone should know the to-be-soon-winner (or if someone beats his/her story before the voting deadline, whenever that is), and to bump Nerevar back in here so we can end this 2 - 3 month long, well written stress mayhem!

And the votes!

Now a personal note to all who have participated. THANK YOU. A Competition would be nothing without people taking interest and actually sitting down for an hour, two hours or even two weeks to write out the short stories you have all written out. I've been writing for about 3 years now for entertainment. I mainly fan-fic with Star Wars, but with this competition it allowed me to dig deeper into EVE's Lore and backstory to better understand the game itself, as with the chance of winning fabulous prizes! Sure, one of my popular tactics in writing competitions is to write as hard as I can, as clearly as I can and throw my whole heart into it...and when it's done count myself out to stiffle disappointment. I knew I had no chance in this competition, as evident in my story taking 10th Place (currently). But at least I know I had fun and met some people with similar RP'ing tastes as my own. I'm not the only RP'er here! Bear

Near as I can tell, and from reading your stories, Jack Carrigan, Deadly Works and Myxx, congrats and may we face again in another competition!

Cheers to Nerevar Dwemor for posting this contest, reimbursing the participant's patience with Navy Comets, and may there be another! (With voting here again, next time Blink )

And lastly. Cheers to everyone who participated! It's been a long couple of months waiting to see who won, and thank you all for giving Nerevar the patience he deserves.

The Gank
Lelith Hellebron

I liked it because it did a good job of describing an ordinary ship vs. ship battle, the kind any EVE player might encounter. With regular familiar items, such as Drakes and Hobgoblin IIs. So you had the familiar we know from gameplay, but fleshed out and with the environment of being in the ship and in the pod. Harder to pull off and execute well than it might sound, and I thought this story did it really well.

hi there. it took me a lot of time to read the stories.

it also took me alot of time, to find out for what story should i vote. this was the most difficult part because here are some very good stories.

but now i know.

at the first time i wanted to vote for
8
The Spy
Jake Lanks

but then

21
The Gank
Lelith Hellebron

has convinced me.

So i vote for #21 - The Gank

EvE is not only PvP, there is also PvE and mining, ok ok ok, there is more, like building ships/modules and of course trading on the market (this is cool, like trading with real stocks).
I heard and read a lot of PvP stories. But no one was such good like #21 - The Gank.

You will ask me "why", and ill tell you why, because a lot of battle stories (PvP) sound more like battle reports. Battle reports with a little bit more information about the fight.

But this story brings the feelings to the reader like no one other story. I mean hey, you see only the ship and only the pod. But this story tells also also what happen in the ship and in the pod. (Like Telegram Sam [above me] wrote)

It is very difficult to write a story about a battle, without sounding it like a battle report.

Lelith Hellebron, well done, really a nice story. Now i try to play eve (by doing ratting on Angels) and imagine that in my Machariel there is a crew.

No, thank you, and everyone else who has made this interesting so far. It took me some time, and I personally read all of the stories in the competition, so it's not like I blindly submitted and wanted to just win a prize. My motivation was far different. What my motivation was here, was to write the best possible story that I could, in hopes that it would motivate others to do the very same, and honestly, I was pleased with what I saw.

There are a lot of talented writers out there, and I wish that more of them were willing to share their works of fiction or in-game adventures with the masses. It helps deepen the immersion amongst the community, which if I remember right, is the entire purpose of the game. And immersive world with thousands of stories waiting to be told.

To all of you, I look forward to seeing more of your works, and I wish more would share with the community.

It's not who wins, it's who actually took the time to sit down to write something.

Cheers to all of you, and I can't wait to see the final outcome.

I am the One who exists in Shadow. I am the Devil your parents warned you about.
