So i've been playing eve online for about 2 years now and i've been playing on the same desktop for about 4 years and around 2 days ago this started up.

i'll start the eve launcher no problem log in and then just as i'm about to pick my character in the character select screen my computer shuts off as if i was flipping the power switch.

I can't think of what the problem would be. i cleaned my hardware of all dust, updated my graphics drivers, and made sure the computer doesn't overheat as its running 63 C when on the log in screen.

Is anyone else having this problem or know whats wrong?

Damaged RAM can cause this. If you have mutliple sticks then I would suggest removing them all bar one and try to see if that helps stability. Then add sticks if its more stable one at a time until you find one that causes a crash. Then remove all bar that one stick and see if it does crash. Then replace said stick :)

Mine did this same behaviour, turned out it was actually a faulty DIMM port. (ram slot).

Alright so i tried taking out the RAM and trying them one by one but only one worked out of all 4.

So i tried restarting my computer and tried to do it a second time with the same RAM that worked and it ended up shutting off my computer as well.

I'm not completely sure if it has to do with my computer because i tried starting other games like:

Arma 3 ultra settings
Crysis 2 ultra settings
Crysis 3 ultra settings
and few others

All of those worked fine.

It seems like EVE is the only game that's conflicting with my system all of the sudden.

this is odd because a computer shutting down suddenly only happen when there is a power supply issue (like a short-circuit) OR a temperature issue (CPUs have threshold causing that, GPU might have the same)

now, about the threshold, several thing could be checked to ensure if they are involved.

a burnin test to see how the rig behave could be usefull, an OCCT run using the powersupply mode will load both CPU and GPU at 100%, while monitoring various temp and voltages.

this could help you ensure your rig t° are normal, as your voltages.

a RAM issue would lead to BSOD / reboots not a complete shutdown.

if, during this run, your comp shutdown immediately, i would tend fo a PSU issue, if it take some time, closely monitor the various T° and Voltage (they are logged so you could check after a reboot), and check for any unusual spike / drop (like a CPU t° suddenly goin 80°c+ or a 12V suddenly dropping to 10V etc...)

hope you will find some clues with that Big smile

also be aware that this will really heat up your comp, so ensure you do not change OCCT's safety T° limit unless you know what you are doing (OCCT is made so it will cancel the test many °C BEFORE any safety treshold)

a good advise: if all this is pointing to a PSU issue, i would strongly recommend that you take care of remplacing it ASAP, to avoid damaging any other component!!

replacing a 100-120 usd PSU early could avoid you having to replace a 1k$ rig or many expansive part of it, mostly RAM / mobo (those two often suffer first)
