Not seen this thread before. Some nice changes there.

+1 from me.

Let's hope some of the ideas I posted in this thread will be in the next expansion : Odyssey

Overview need some love in next update, last inventory improvements where great, so tweaking this most important part of UI would be at least beneficial Roll.

Definitely, + 1Blink.

One of the few ideas that I have felt compelled to give the thumb, instead of the finger. Very nice, and comprehensive.

looks cool
I am just not sure how will that overview react live on 600 + objects in it ... or just 200

After all eve has become a game of numbers.
I think it will just bring more lag on client side

It doesn't really do anything to change the amount of information received, just the way it is filtered and displayed (and even then, it doesn't appear to be much difference at all on the former). As such, I'm not too sure why you think further lag would be a problem.

Really, if that's such a huge concern for people with older comps, they could always leave in the old overview as an option.

All of this is assuming, of course, that they manage to fix the inherent overview problems that already exist.

Complete support.

If you're driven to threaten others with harm or violence because of what they do in game, you can't separate fantasy from reality. That "griefer/thief" is probably more sane than you are. How screwed up is that?

Someone give this person a job at CCP headquarters!

I like what I'm seeing in the suggestions for the overview! I've always avoided trying to deal with it because it's too much of a headache even to come up with solutions for it, but your ideas are making my head feel better already!

Also, your avatar is amazing! I came here ready to find an excuse to leave, until I saw your avatar and decided I might as well start clicking links.Roll

And I have one idea: instead of making a popup box to show ship summary (that would take time and bandwidth), you could just make a more detailed set of small icons to more accurately display all the types of ships. They could all just be boxes, but different colors for different categories. Also, I'd like to see the distinction between the 5 size classes (frigate/destroyer/cruiser/battlecruiser/battleship) worked on. Destroyers and battlecruisers just look like cruisers, and battleships and capital ships look the same.

Here's my proposal, maybe someone can draw up a sketch for me:
Industrial ships are already a horizontal rectangle. Capital ships could be a vertical rectangle. I'm not sure what to do for capital industrial ships.

I'm listing color options here sort of off the top of my head, but with red for direct combat, blue for operations/EWAR, and yellow for industry/exploration:

Bright red: tech 1 DPS ships like the kestrel, catalyst, omen, hurricane, typhoon, and attack battlecruisers
Dark red: tech 2 assault: assault ships, heavy assault ships, field command ships
Magenta: tech 1 tanky combat ships like the incursus, moa, prophecy, maelstrom
Maroon: tech 2 tanky: fleet command ships
Bright violet: scorpion, bhaalgorn, and tech 1 logistics like the navitas, bantam, augoror, scythe
Dark violet: tech 2 logistics, combat recon, and black ops
Bright blue: tech 1 EWAR ships like the vigil, crucifier, blackbird, celestis
Dark blue: electronic attack ships
Bright teal: probe ships: magnate, heron, imicus, probe
Dark teal: covert ops (not stealth bombers)
Dark green: blockade runners
Yellow: tech 1 industrials, noctis
Yellow-orange: tech 1 mining barges
Dark yellow-orange: exhumers
Dark red-orange: stealth bombers and marauders
Brown: force recon

Strategic cruisers: grey
Shuttles and apotheosis: white

Titans: bright magenta
Supercarriers: bright purple
Dreadnoughts: bright red
Carriers: bright violet
Orca, rorqual, tech1 freighters: yellow
Jump freighters: dark yellow

Gnosis: brown
Zephyr: manila

A quick sketch for colors. Most of the ships are purple, magenta, or red, and in big fleet combat that's mostly what you'd see. I haven't adjusted the shape of the icons for capital ships, but those would stand out more from subcaps once that's done.

Note the cheetah.

Oh, thank you very much, Chitsa Jason. It's very kind of you.

I don't know if all "UI development teams' know about these ideas but it seems that at least, one of them, "CCP Arrow" does.

It's good to hear from you that you are willing to promote them a little bit more.

I am still hoping to read dev blogs about some of these ideas being implemented.

4. Configurable buttons column (betoli's idea)

Configurable buttons column for common actions appropriate for each object (linked to tab settings), you should never need to right click. Take cans - what do I ever do with them - approach and open. so my cans setting should have those two buttons in the button column. Other people might want warp-to and orbit for cans too.

Here are mockup images for this (betoli's) suggestion:

New column with action buttons:
http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/333777buttoncolumnallbuttons.png

The drop-down menu opened:
http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/398210buttoncolumnchooseaction.png

Of course, the available actions listed in this drop-down menu would change according to what the player selected (ship, stargate, asteroid...)

The arrow would be there to display the drop-down menu but (to speed up the management of this button during a fight) the player could use his "mouse wheel" over this button to switch the action. In this case he wouldn't have to click the arrow button to change the action.

It seems this column has become unnecessary since CCP coded the new left click radial menu.

I will be back to full working condition on CSM issues on June 6th. If you could contact me in game then we could talk on comms about your ideas. I really like them.

+1 I REALLY like these ideas, and good visuals as well, that's what sold it for me. It's hard to imagine some of the ideas on here.

-0.2 for the Configurable Buttons on the Overview though, I'm just not a fan.

Great job and good mockups. Oh and a friendly Tuesday Bump with a +1 as well.

Also see the CSM post above OP! You did something that made an impact, well done! IdeaLolIdea
