So, I just saw CCP T0rtifrans wearing a T-shirt with that name... and I researched for it... and was appalled to learn that, as usual, some stoopid American couldn't get Spanish right.

"Los pollos hermanos" means litherally "the brother chickens" as in chickens who are sons of the same parent(s), and that sentence makes as much sense in Spanish as it does in English.

Of course, what happened was that someone was thinking about calling a restaurant "The chicken brothers", as in sons of the same parent(s) who are related to chicken. And rather than ask, just made a litheral translation and figured that it was enough to shift the posiition of the words, producing a Spanish name that makes no f*** sense.

Another possibility was that they actually asked and learned that what they tried to say was "Los hermanos de los pollos", which is slightly funny in Spanish because it's ambiguous, but they thought that it was a damn long name for a restaurant and so they went with "Los pollos hermanos" as it actually didn't mattered...

Unless it matters, when you're one of the 500 million people in the world who speak Spanish, and you're bored on a lazy Sunday and just want to stir some noise about a silly name on a silly TV series.

There's a restaurant called Los Tacos Hermanos in Santiago, Chile, the country where Gus Fring's character comes from in Breaking Bad.

Maybe all of Chile is gravely, deeply offended by the name and nobody buys their tacos.

I suggest writing a very stern letter to the writers of Breaking Bad, informing them of this offensive mistake and demand they correct the name in all previous episodes and merchandise.

I still get my mouth drooling just by watching THE POLLOS HERMANOS TV Ad ...

Edit: #Iconfess I have two t-shirts, one for my wife and one for me, and we go out sometimes with them, and people ask us about it here in Panama, we just look at each other and say it´s the best damn restaurant in the USA as we laugh.

Damn straight we do. Haven't you been checking the settings on the Micrsoft Office Family of Products(tm)? Among other things, you can choose between... (wait for it!)... English English, and American English!



Seriously, between usage and spelling the two dialects are drifting apart fairly rapidly.
