Is the Thorax now the best cruiser rail sniper?

With the cruiser rebalance, the change to the moa's bonus, and the shifting if the thorax to an attack style cruiser, I keep funding the thorax is a better rail sniper than the moa. Am I just failing in eft, or is the moa left as only a brawler?

For Thorax, I had:

Lows:
Mag stab 2 x2
Tracking enhancer 2 x2
Reactor control 2

Mids:
10mn experimental mwd
Sensor booster 2 x2 (one with a range script, the other with no script)
Tracking computer with optimal range script

Highs:
250mm rail 2 x5 (with spike)

Rigs:
2 polycarb
1 hybrid locus coordinator (why are there none of these in the forge region?)

With my skills, optimal was 95km, falloff another 22km. Dps is 191, speed was 2165.
I could get a moa with a bit more tank, same dps, same range, but a huge drop in speed. Plus the thorax has better drone options and a built in tracking bonus

A friend of mine worked up a closer range gate camper which again.exceeded any moa option.

So am I missing something, or is the thorax a better sniper now?

Yes, it's probably the best cruiser-hull rail sniper, however that's a bit like saying it's the cleverest kid in school with downs syndrome.

Medium rails are awful, large ones got better but still subpar

191dps from a rails rax?- Jesus, even a cormorant with small rails can do that and this is for truth. This should tell you something how bad medium rails are.

And my question and observation was more about: what's the point of that Rails Rax and what are you trying to kill with?

The number alone of 191 dps can be done with a Cormorant at 100km that uses SMALL rail guns, so what's the point of fitting medium rails and ammo on a Thorax for 191 DPS a lesser ranges?

If it's to prove how really bad medium rails are then I guess it's exactly the kind of example CCP needs to take a look at to figure out how dumb&bad med rails are.

Medium rails need a buff..

But people seriously exaggerate how bad they are to the point where they think kiting with a blaster thorax is a viable idea...

For a fair comparison - Overheated, no drones, no implants.
Cormorant: 182 dps, 94km,7km optimal/falloff. 3.7k EHP
Thorax: 243 dps, 91/25 opt/falloff, 10.96k EHP.
Moa: 250 dps, 91/29, 12.91k EHP

Both the cruisers are faster than the destroyer, and less agile. The one thing you're trying to kill with this fit are Sniper Cormorants. Big smile

Our guys also fit up 200mm rail Thorax and go solo other cruisers, and they allow the T1 Gallente/Caldari turret cruiser to apply dps at range.

There is no reason not to try medium rails in T1 Cruisers. They aren't exactly a huge investment.

Using Faction Uranium you get 411 DPS out to 23km. That overheats to 461 DPS. The small cap booster lets you permarun the MWD and point. It's worth noting that you can still pick up an 805 medium hybrid damage implant for less them 9 million.

TC II x 2
SB II
Low:
MFS II x 3

Shield to taste

Faction AM gets the same range as the Uranium loaded Thorax. 405 DPS - 468 DPS Overheated. More of the DPS from the turrets though and more range vs tracking options with the TC. No point means you are a pack animal.

These implants are great, and I always wonder why they are so cheap. There's no way for me to purchase a +5% implant for that amount directly from the LP store.
