If the wiki is correct and I understand it correctly, there is no point in researching a BPO that you eventually plan on making a copy of to do invention with. Is this correct?

Correct, research levels on a bpc used for invention has no effect on the invention process or outcome.

True enough, but if you are going to be making the required T1 product yourself, it is to your advantage to at least research the ME for less mineral requirements.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm sure I'll do some ME research for some of my BPOs, but most stations near me have a 30+ day wait for ME slots. I guess I should invest in a 2nd BPO for some of the stuff I make a lot of so far, so I won't miss that BPO while it's gone for over a month.

standings, POS, and "private" research slots will be your friends.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

not exactly,

While copies made for research do not benefit at all from ME or PE research. only decriptors can affect the ME, PE, and runs of an invented T2 BPC.

However if you plan to do any manufacturing from that T1 BPO or make copies for manufacturing rather than invention the ME and PE are well worth it.

basically Dedicated inventor + no need for ME PE research

Inventor who also does manufacturing, or invents for the purpose of acquiring T2 BPC's for manufacturing, you will also need decent ME/PE levels.

If you are building T2 stuff, each run needs a T1 item as a base ingredient. you will want to make those T1 ingredients yourself to maximize profits, to do that you will want either a second BPO that is researched, or research the BPO you make copies of for invention and either use some of the copies, or the BPO it self to make the T1 items.

You are going to find that all copy slots have 30+ day wait times too in highsec.

Bollocks. Maybe in The Forge - try another region and you can find slots with less that half that. Sometimes it's just a matter,of timing but there are plenty.

Get yourself into quiet lowest in a covert ops or a shuttle and you can find some slots with zero wait times.
I've done some really stupid shit in this game.
