Ratting Help

I was out in my new Megathron doing a spot of ratting (sansha). It was my 4th day in 0.0 space and just getting to grips with things. Here is my fit.

High Slots;

7x425mm Carbide Railgun I
1xDrone Link Augmentor

Mid Slots;

4xCap Recharger

Low Slots;

1xLarge Armor Repair II
1xPower Diagnostic System II
1xArmor EM Hardener
1xArmor Thermic Hardener
1xTracking Enhancer II
2xMagnetic Field Stablizer II

My damage output is grand for what I need it to do (320dps and 1000+ for Volley) and it punches out to 85-90km, kinda hit them before they hit you idea. The tank also runs stable.

As I'm sure you can see, my skills are not perfect so please note anyone who posts along the lines of "YOU NEED TECH2 OTHERWISE EVERYTHING WILL FALL AROUND YOUR EARS" Will be ignored. This point should be taken as granted and skills are in the pipeline. It's just I like the game and prefer not to sit in my station for a month until I become socially acceptable.

My main query, along with fitting advise, would be in regards to what happened while I was ratting. A Taranis warpped in on top of me and I got schooled heavily, losing my first ship ever (160mill worth).

I was wondering about any hints and tips for defending myself in the likely hood that situation rises again and any "Get out of there fast" tips.

There is a "Missions & Complexes" section of the forum that probably has more answers than general discussion

Best advice for ratting in null, watch local. Seriously, if you learn nothing else about 0.0 learn that.

Intel is the key, you should be in warp to a tactical 250-300km of the station within 10 seconds of a neut/red being in system. Never warp directly to the station in case some clever sod bubbles the station.
Once you land on your tac, if the station is clear you can then warp to and dock, grab a frig/dessie and go chase the b*stards away!

If it was me, I would replace the drone mod in the high slot with a cloak of some kind. Bad guys cannot shoot you if they cannot see you. Also, make some safe spots too. And like someone else said, watch local.

best thing is to stay out of high-traffic areas (pipes) and not to be in a belt or an anomaly with a neutral in system

i also think that a bs is not very good for ratting, a battlecruiser might be better? i use either a ferox or a naga for pve outside of missions

also why do you need the PDS? Straight is it for capacitor? fit some capacitor control circuits in the rigs, free some mids and that lowslot for other things

i bet you'd be just as unhelpful there as here, though

Thank you both. I've re-posted in Missions and Complexes and as for local checking. The thing is the guy was neutral and intel hadn't confirmed. I have been told to warp out whatever the situation but, it kinda made me double check and by then it was too late...

Thanks

Yes it was, I had a auxillary nano pump and two weapon rigs in place at the time. I'll look into the cruisers. Just concerned with my low skills that both Tank and Damage output may be an issue in a smaller ship.

Looks fine. As you said, only real threat is the other nullsec players. If you've got the skills to circumvent that issue then measly rats should never be a problem for you.
