I have noticed some strange behaviour with the markets over the last couple of weeks:

http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/5779/marketee.png

As you can see from the SS's One customer bought a Med Shield Extender II for 759,915.88 isk (correct price) then 2 seconds later another customer paid 847,000.00 isk

Quick Edit both sales for the medium shield extender came from the same station

Has any one else experienced this ?

They chose to buy items listed from another seller. It allways sells for the cheapest. hapens to me too often.

they either do not have the market sorted by price, or, they are trying to buy out an order several below yours.

The market automatically fills the top order, at the price the person puts in

Happened to me a couple times to enter a buy order with the price info of another item. Well, after updating the 100th order in a row. At the time I was just too distracted to notice. So the top sell order got a comfy bonus.

Sometimes they're trying to do something sneaky.

Anyway, no matter what price you type in/sell order you buy from, you will always purchase the stock from the lowest bidder. You will purchase that stock at the price you agreed to pay.

Similarly with selling to buy orders. (Incidentally, you can sometimes use this to steal the escrow out from bad margin scammers).

I sometimes do this when the sum is negligible and the cheapest sellers don't have enough of the items I want.

Like if I'm buying drones and I need... 50 I'm not going to buy them at numbers like 3, 12, 5, 2 ,1. I just pick the cheapest that has 50 or more to sell and buy them in one go.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

That is really the only scenario where it is not the result of a mistake or a misunderstanding of game mechanics.
