Undocking in 0.0/LowSec

I'm thinking of moving out into 0.0 but something has always bothered me. Undocking from the stations. Is there a trick to this or is it luck and faith that someone isn't outside the station camping? Is that the point?

And before you make a joke about the title, yes I know about the yellow and black undock button on the Neocom.

I'm Naomi Hale and this is my favourite thread on the forums.

I was told to keep an eye on the local channel.

If there is anything hostile out there you will see it. Might not be sitting on the undock but it is a good bet that you'll be blown up. So just sit in station until local is clear?

After undocking if you press ctrl+space (default short cut for stop ship) your ship will stop without losing your invulnerability timer. This means if there is any hostile ships waiting you can wait out your session change timer and re-dock. Be aware of kick out stations though.

Another tactic is to use the insta undock bookmark. Using this tactic you need to watch out for bubbles in 0.0 space.

You keep an eye on local is one thing but won't help you out of the station.

When you find your station you need to setup bookmarks for insta-undock and what I call a tactical bookmark.

An insta-undock is a bookmark that is anywhere from 300km to 1000km outside the station aligned when you ship undocks.

A tactical bookmark allows you to come up on the station and see what it there before you dock.

These allow you to come out of a station and immediately warp away, or come up on a station and see what is outside before you dock up.

Start the day off slow and taper off from there.

If you're solo then yes, it's all down to luck if anyone is sat camping the undock point of a station.

Don't forget, npc controlled regions, you can dock & undock freely - Player controlled Alliance regions, 99% chance you won't be able to dock in their stations unless you have standings with them.

Tips though for 0.0:

Always check local
Set up some insta-warp undock bm's from the stations (do an eve search for info on how)
There is a 30 second invul. timer when you undock - if it's camped, just re-dock asap
Learn the locals, what they fly, etc. (use a killboard for getting any intel on locals -i.e. any kills, ships flown, etc)

And even though you might be the only one in the system, you may undock to find some friendly person has anchored a bubble or two around the undock point which makes getting out that bit more fun What?Shocked

and the most important tip of all:

Don't Fly what you cant Afford to Lose

**edited bit**

Low-sec undocking / docking:

Pretty much the same for 0.0 but you wont have to worry about bubbles or Player ran Alliance docking issues

Keeping an eye on local is good, but it is unnecessary to stay docked until you are the only one in system. When you undock from a station, you have a few seconds during which you are invulnerable to attack. Use this time to see who is on the undock. If they look too scary, you can immediately dock up again more-or-less safely.

The best way to deal with this is to create insta warp out bookmarks off any station that you frequently use. To do this, undock from the station in a fast, cheap ship, then fly straight out from the undock in whichever direction it spits you out. Use your microwarpdrive to quickly fly out 500+ km. When you are satisfied with your range, go to "people and places" on your neocom, then the places tab, click "add new location", give it a name, and click "ok". Then the next time you undock, your ship should come out already aligned, and you can go directly into warp to your bookmark before anybody can target you.

1.) Wait out session timer (15 seconds) while holding your undock Invul timer (60 seconds)...100% safe way to check the undock (unless you get bumped or you are on a kick out station).

2.) Insta undock warps.

Can you even be bumped during that time? (Honestly wondering.)

Session timer is 10 seconds and the undock invulnerability is 30 seconds, not 60. And no you can't be bumped, targeted or smart bombed.

The best trick I've found is to have the appropriate intel channel open and to read it.

If you dont have an intel channel for the region, get one, or be very very wary about docking at stations.

Failing that, practice undocking, having a quick look and redocking, and comparing local against the people in the statiopn with you.

Insta-undocks have been mentioned.

Also, check dotlan for ship/pilot kills in the last hour and 24 hours. Some stations are more active that you think - for example,. there are possibly people who think Rahadalon is just a nice quiet 0.4 losec system.
