If you haven't heard about this, then you need to know. It's the kind of thing I suspect the EvE community in general would appreciate the humor of. It would also be kinda awesome if some variation of the resulting lolz could be incorporated into the game...

This guy was mugged (ganked) one night. The thief made off with his macbook, bank cards etc.

So the guy activated the tracking software in his laptop, but instead of eventually turning up in Iran, in this case, the thief KEPT the laptop, and used the cards (the guy's insurance sorted things out so the guy is not out of pocket but still, so far, so very EvE).

The Police (Concord) were given the thief's address, name, ebay details etc, and they did, nothing. Case got closed. (Again, so very EvE)

I think the software only kicked in some time after the theft, since the thief needed to do something incredibly stupid to trigger it on the guest account. The thief did the incredibly stupid thing eventually and then the amusing started. But yeah, the police could have done a LOT more then they did even with the evidence available right away. How hard is it to request CCTV footage from shops where the thief used the cards for example?
