Hey all,

I have some organisational question about Iceland / Fanfest, but have no idea where to post them, so, be free to move this post.

1) Is is smarter to acquire some money beforehand or to exchange Euros to Icelandic Krona at the airport.
2) Do the hotels that are in the package deals of CCP / Icelandair have means to get to Fanfest, or are they nearby? Or do we have to expect extra costs to get to Fanfest?
3) What kind of temperatures we have to pack our suitcases for?

Thx.

1) It depends on what you will be charged for converting at home vs at the airport. As a general rule, I've found airports tend to charge a little bit more than my home bank, however that is compared to the convenience of having currency there and then (at the airport) vs having to get it ordered in (exchanging at home). If you have the time, I'd say get it changed at home.

Note relating to 1) I have not yet found anywhere in Reykjavik that doesn't take card payments. Taxis, bars, the FF venue itself all took them, as well as the tour booking offices. But it is always useful to have a little cash on hand I suppose.

2) I believe all the hotels in the package deals (Centrehotels?) are all on or next to the main street, and well within walking distance of Harpa. Places like the Hilton have taxis regularly stopping. The reception can also sorto ne for you in the event that non are available, but you should be sorted.

3) Generally on the cold side, with a side order of wind/rain/snow whenever it feels like it ;) I'm not talking arctic temperatures here (apart from the glaciers, etc), but yes it's not known for warmth. Hence the name, who'd of thought ;) Have a check on the interwebs for the weather for the past few days, that'll give you a good idea.

Pretty much every shop in Iceland accepts creditcards, which IIRC also don't charge you extra for it. If you have one it's very convenient.

Otherwise i'd probably get some from your bank before you go to the airport :)

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

The forecast is looking like a Southern New England February. Pack warm!

Is there going to be a party buss this year? If so, when would it start? Some of us are arriving early.

Who else other than myself and one of my alliance mates is showing up early?

1) It can be very difficult to get ISK before coming to Iceland, many banks don't carry it. I always used to withdraw some cash at Keflavik on the way to the flybus, there are of course places downtown where you can get cash too.

Might be a good idea to check out what charges your bank applies for cash withdrawals versus making multiple purchases on your card. Might work out cheaper to make one larger cash withdrawal but you can always use your card in case of emergency. Also, you should keep photo ID with you as some stores (10-11 convenience store) will ask for this when you use a credit card.

2) Everything in downtown Reykjavik is entirely walkable, you should be just fine in terms of getting to the venue. There is a map of downtown included in the program book: http://fanfest.eveonline.com/en/info/program

3) What kind of temperatures we have to pack our suitcases for? - all of them! People joke that if you want the weather to change in Iceland you need only wait 5 minutes, it can often be this way. Last week everyone came to work in light jackets on a beautiful spring morning, by 5.30pm it was snowing pretty heavily.

The wind can be really brutal, especially considering we are right on the sea. Oh, and don't ever trust the weather forecast in Iceland :P
