Client Hangs at EULA Screen on Fedora 15

I managed to load Eve onto Fedora and patch it. Now when you start Eve the client throws up the EULA screen with no text in it and no buttons. The ESC menu doesn't work either. There is no way to close the EULA screen or the client. In the background I can see that the client has connected to eve and got the number of people logged in but I can't interact with the log in screen.

If someone could help me out I'd appreciate it.

Did you install the fonts.
Arial.ttf to be exact. whitout that you have no text in the eula screen.

Just use wintricks to install the corefonts.

Or do like i do, copy the Arial.ttf from a windows partition.

Either arial missing, dx 36 dll missing or bad video drivers.

Ok I installed corefonts using Winetricks. That didn't seem to fix it. Can you tell me how to install the dx_36.dll, please? I have access to a windows machine to get the file.

Winetricks can also install those dlls for you.

If you start winetricks without an argument then you should get a selection screen for Fonts, DLLs and settings of your wine prefix.

First I'd like to thank you guys for your help. Its appreciated.

Unfortunately, I have not had any luck. I have used winetricks to install the corefonts and all the dx files I could find. The problem persists.

I'll just go through the symptoms again;
I can see the whole log in screen in the background. Words, graphic everything.
In the foreground is the EULA window with its two tabs and the message to scroll to the bottom.
I can interact with the tabs for the EULA and Third Party EULA.
There is no text in the EULA itself on either tab and there is no slider bar down the side. No way to get to the bottom.
Clicking on the empty space where the EULA should be and using down arrow doesn't get me to the end. The is no way to close the EULA window.
The ESC key does not function at all. Its supposed to clear the EULA screen or call up the menu but neither happens.
I have to end the program by closing the instance.

I hope the extra detail might trigger an idea. Thanks again.

Hi,

Still seems the arial font is not installed. check in the .wine/drive_c/windows/fonts folder if you have the arial.ttf in place. if not try to get the font from a windows install and copy past it in the .wine/drive_c/windows/fonts folder. Restart the eve client.

You should at least have the eula

This happens for me, if I try the nouveau drivers instead of the nvidia binary ones.

I had this issue, but then ran into another. When the game launches and the EULA would come up I had to let it "sit" there for a bit...at the time I was in another window looking for a fix and when I went back to the screen a couple minutes later the text was all there and I was able to scroll down and accept.

Unfortunately after the latest patch, every time I launch the game it wants to patch yet again, and no matter how many times I let it do this it will keep prompting for the client to be patched :(

I created Ave Molech and I love ponies.

Have you installed 32-bit or 64-bit wine? Have you downloaded winetricks and executed from console:

sh winetricks corefonts

You need 32-bit wine. If you installed 64-bit, you have to uninstall it and install 32-bit wine.

When I tried EVE few days ago on Fedora 15, that was the problem. Also you have to add rpmfusion.org repo and install libtxc_dxtn from it (you can install manually with rpm -i and not add that repo too). It's necessary to have textures in the game.

Ok gang. I used winetricks again to install the corefonts. This time I ran it from a different location. Seems i ahve several places for corefonts to end up. Now Eve works. I can log in and get to game play. however the graphics are glitchy. I'm wrestling with getting rig of the nouveau drivers and updating my graphics drivers. Eve is very dark and its hard to see anything. Will this fix when I fix the driver issue?

Maybe. I myself don't run EVE on linux precisely because of graphics glitches, but I have a Radeon card, and your mileage may vary.

Seam to be a drivers issue.

If you have an Nvidia card, be sure to have the last binary blob from Nvidia and be sure that the openGL is working
If you have a Radeon card, be sure to use Open source drivers (latest GIT version + S3TC libs.)

This Sux. I had it! It was working but now for no apparent reason its not working again.

I got the nouveau drivers disabled and installed the latest drivers from NVIDIA. That seemed to work fine. Got into the game and flew around and everything. I go to log in two days later and I get the splash screen and then zip. It hangs before the log in screen shows. What's more I can't close the Wine window. I have to Kill the process. I can't think what has changed since it was working.

This was happening before the latest patch too.

Running eve from console is a good habit - you can see various debugging messages and you can kill a stuck client with ctrl+c.

Open your eyes. And awaken.
