I am back from a hiatus resulting from null sec political burnout. My corp has been good to me but I would like to explore the FW thing. I have read enough to know there is a difference between enlisting in an NPC militia vs joining a player owned corp that is already engaged in FW . What i dont understand is the advantages and disadvantages if any of each. If anyone has a recommendation I would love to hear it as well as the extended version of why it is better. Thanks

Unless you are already a skilled pvper that enjoys solo combat or have a bunch of existing friends in militia, don't join the NPC corp. As an unknown NPC corp member you will be label a spy and have trouble getting into good fleets. I would suggest directly joining a player corp.

If you decide to join the NPC militia corporation you will be exclude from a large part of the fleets. You will have a very limited view of what is going on in FW and you will miss out on a lot. You will also be denied access to intel channels and other means of communication to your fellow militia.

On the other hand you can do what you want in the NPC corporation. No one will expect anything from you so you'll live where you want, fly what you want, when you want.

Well i am glad i brought it up. I have a little null sec pvp experience but not anywhere near pro. I am eager to learn. Does my faction rep have any affect when joining a player corp or will it be covered by there reputation? I was planning to join with Gallente since my Minmitar rep is sub 0 and I would like to bring it up.

You need 0.5 standing to join NPC corp. PC corp needs 0.5 average standing. Any FW worth anything will have enough standings to take you on even if you were -10 to the faction. They will mos likely expect you to improve your standing after you join though.

Also , i noticed most of the recruiting in the recruitment section is for null sec pvp corps. How do I go about finding a good player owned FW corporation ?

Wasn't that changed to just positive standing? >= 0.0

Just post a detailed post in the recruitment thread. "Good" is a relative term and means different things to different people. For example, do you want a mostly solo focused corp? Do you want the corp with the most FCs? What kind of culture do you want, serious internet spaceships or bigoted foul mouthed sociopaths (or something in between)? Do you want ship replacement programs? Are you pure combat or do you want a corp that also does something else (wormholes, exploration, mining, missions, industry, etc). Do you want a heavy RP corp, RP lite corp, closet RP, or no RP corp? Etc, etc, etc.

I think you're more likely to be labeled as noob and incompetent than a spy nowadays... Roll

Best to join Caldari. They need more manpower . Join Okamas Razor or Cerberus Project as those two corps seem to have the better FCs from what I hear, Gavin and Super, respectively.

It might be different in the other militias but in the Minmatar militia, not many people will treat you poorly just because you're in the NPC corp. It's more a matter of how long you've been around that determines what fleets will be interested in you and whether you get into intel channels.

Despite that though I can't recommend finding a good player corp enough. The help you get from corpies and the comraderie are way better than in the general militia.

Yeah - 0 or above is all that's needed.

You can create a gunless dplexing alt opps I mean a toon and drop it straight in FW one second later.
(And they all still wonder why the farmers appear so quickly)

Cerby is a good choice - you will learn lots from Super if pvp is your thing.

The gallente are grossly misinformed. Me? A good FC? Lol. Also gavin left okkams.

I guess I could use the numbers to improve my lossboard though...
