Hisec ice removal

Removal of hisec ice belts, and putting them into scanable hidden belts. Someone heard something about it? Someone has maybe a link, if there's something official from CCP? Heard they removed them from hisec, on test server. Grass shows from where the wind blows...or, better said to where does it blow.

Confirmed, CCP is removing ice from the game completely. All ice will be turned into plex at a ratio of 5 plex per 1 ice block.

A wild speculation appears!

They where talking about ice being the new oil/gold of eve.
So there is a chance this could happen, also because they want more probing and scanning in eve.
So speculation is already in progress for ice products.

the speculation for ice is there because any changes to ice will increase it's value. due to the fact that any change will make obtaining ice harder since in it's current form the only easier way of obtaining ice is if ccp contracted it directly to you from thin air.

This game might be a bit too much for you. But don't cry, just go back to WoW.

Maybe wait until we have more concrete information from CCP about Odyssey. Did this seriously need to be a thread ? No.

The 'removal of ice belts from high sec' is an old rumour that precedes the current rumour of 'removing T2 production & invention from high sec'. Neither of those rumours are likely to be implemented although I do think that introducing depletion of ice as with ore might be a good idea. Certainly might make it slightly more difficult for the bots & AFKers .Twisted

Complete removal of ice belts & T2 production/invention would be a game changer and highly detrimental to CCP's business. So don't expect to see anything like that happen. I think there are going to be changes to industry and possibly hauling in the June expansion which should be interesting. As long as they take it slow and don't throw the baby out with the bathwater we will be alright. *crosses fingers* Smile

Most indeed. As knuckleheaded as the idea of eliminating the NPC Corps. But then most of these guys were the same ones insisting that everyone 'mine with a gun'. Remember that ?

Hi-sec ice removal wouldn't work.

Frozen miner-tears would more than make up the difference.

any miner that's actually interested in making profit from it, doesn't mine ice.

I do. But to profit from Fuel Blocks actually.

But the ice they mine is free, so they get to sell fuel blocks for a 600% profit margin!

Edit: See? LolLolLolLol

but the profit margin is even bigger on real minerals!

Thusly, I mine both. Smile

Most of this comes from the presentation at PAX a while back as a well as comments by eve devs.

Most of this points to a shake up in ice mining. My take is that ice in HS will go away or be limited in some fashion (IE can get mined out like normal rocks or moves to grav sites), NS/LS ice will get a buff (IE "New super ice" types that give more ice per cycle, and be fluid in where it's found)

If the POS system is radically revamped and the demand for ice for fuel is reduced or eliminated then what uses for it are left and what effect would that have on how it's seeded in the game to be harvested?
