Finding free slots for research

I'm finding almost impossible to find free research station with free slots (manufacture research). I've been using three hours cruising in Metropolis and Heimatar system to system without success.

Is there a tool to find free slots? Where I can start my manufacturing

Generally speaking, you are not going to find a free ME research or copy slot in empire space.

Your options are pretty much:

-Queue up your job, wait for your turn.
-Set up your own research POS.

There are some other options (e.g., find a third party with a POS and free lines to do the research for you, join a corp that has a pos) but they're generally riskier or less reliable.

That said, you don't need to go system to system looking for slots. You can check an entire region from anywhere within the region using the installations tab of the S&I window.

Set activity to material research, location to any, range to current region, type public. Sort by next free time and click your way down the list.

If you are just starting out, it will likely be more effective for you to simply purchase a handful of pre-researched blueprints from contracts.

Sounds like you're looking for ME research slots... you probably won't find any in high sec that don't have at least several weeks wait time... the limited number of slots is on purpose to encourage you to pursue other options. You can:

1- Wait it out, you can install jobs in an occupied research slot before they're available but your research won't start until the running job is completed. Most reasonable if you just have a few smaller ones to research.
2- Go hunt down slots in low sec, more risky but way easier to find free slots.
3- Set up a corporation POS somewhere and anchor some labs around it to do the research. Your BPOs can stay in a station in system with a corporate office in it. The expense of the setup and running the POS needs to be considered ahead of time... obviously the most complex option.

Three options over empire, Go to low sec, Go to NPC null, Put up your own POS for spots. You won't find any in empire.

The tool is called a small caldari POS. it can hold 3 labs giving you 9 ME slot 9 PE slots 3 Copy slots, and 15 invention slots, or use 3 hyasyoda labs for 12 ME 12 PE and 18 invention.

At ~12,000 isk per fuel block a small POS costs less than 100M/month to fuel. pretty cheap for up to 12 ME slots all to yourself.

I have had a small POS in high sec with zero defenses for over 3 years without a single war dec. Nobody bashes POSes anymore.

And that's precisely what I'm doing, too. But opening your own research-oriented corp does validate your standings after 7 days, only. So it might still be profitable to use NPC research slots before.

There are shorter waiting times out in lowsec, though you will still need to look around for a good station. Go out there in a covert ops frig, very little chance of getting intercepted.

You can use the research window itself to scout for short queues in the same region. Just set it to 'region' instead of 'station' or 'blueprint location'.

I just take a cloaky hauler or covops into lowsec. Lot's of free slots there and i don't need to hassle around with a POS.

Hi Nadja, I have had this same problem. If I was you I would try to sign on with a researching corp/alliance. I have only recently joined the New Eden Research Alliance with my own corp and it is working out very well. Plenty of free slots all over the place.
