My anger at this news is ineffable. They couldn't have picked a lovelier girl to attack. Ava is perhaps among the least deserving of our bloody race.

Thank you to all of the well-wishers, and for all of the compliments.

We have two items to report.

First. We made contact with Pilot Surionen's clone provider in order to prepare for a clone transfer in the case of pressing requirements. They have reported to us that her transfer clones have been sabotaged. Their tanks were contaminated with a neurotoxin identical to that used by the assailant. All of the clones reported neutral brain activity when polled by reanimation test services, and are going to be biomassed after autopsy. Her genetic samples were likewise sabotaged with bleach. We have taken it upon ourselves to begin construction of a clone for her here in case requirements demand it. As such, we are requesting that the Sebiestor Tribe contact us for any religious or cultural requirements demanded by her position as a Shaman.

Second. Both pilots have undergone neurotomographic scans, which have been completed and processed. Pilot Tuulinen shows no signs of long term damage and should be safe to bring out of static coma shortly. Well-wishers are advised that he will be in the LDRBC walk-in clinic until he is deemed fit for release. Unwell-wishers are advised that Lai Dai Protection Services have stationed a heavier guard than usual at the clinic and research annex during the course of his stay, and that the normal guard is already quite competent!

Pilot Surionen's scans show some measure of complication. While we are currently at an 85% confidence that these will not be long-term or debilitating, we are currently waiting on further data before stating clear confidence on this point. The neurotoxin used by the assailant was a sodium blocker which causes cellular death, particularly in myelinated neurons. Pilot Surionen suffered adverse effects along the optic pathway, particularly in the occipital lobe. We predict that she will suffer from low-level synesthesia with a focus on linear colour patterns. This is unlikely to be permanent, and is also unlikely to carry on through clone transfer. We are waiting for her to awaken before we discuss treatment strategies for this. No further damage has been detected, and she is otherwise recovering normally.

Pending reply from the Sebiestor Tribe or the Starfire Clan, we will make no public announcements on where Pilot Surionen is currently being treated. We would, however, like to reassure the concerned that she is under heavy guard.

Thank you, sir. I will be sure to contact you should we have needs. I ought to say, however - I am not the owner, nor am I an administrator in Lai Dai Research Biomedical and Cybernetic. I am an auxilliary with a third tier nursing licence. My doctorate is in mathematics; my work is largely focused in the Algorithms department, in which I am a Researcher under the directorship of Atkio Vanamoinen. This said, my Capsuleer's licence tends to put me in roles for which I am otherwise poorly suited. Thank you for your measure of confidence!

I have constructed a model of the damaged regions and we have done some tests for palliative therapies. I'm very pleased to announce that the possibility that Pilot Surionen will make a full recovery is at 93%, with an error margin of +/-2%. Our thanks go out to Pilot Anslo, whose security assisted in lessening the effectiveness of the attacker's shot, and whose expertise in toxicology was very helpful in diagnosing trauma frames.

Pilot Vikus;

Thank you; I hope that we may see further co-operation in the future as well. Our motivations are simple - we are a medical research facility with a large neurological department. We are pleased to accept patients when we are able to, though our capacity to take medical cases is rather small. As for my own motivations, I consider her a friend, and will do anything I am able to if it helps her avoid permanent brain trauma. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, least of all her.

I woke up this afternoon. I'm still very tired but the staff said I could write a short message.

Thank you to the medics and security people. Thank you to scherezad and anslo and rhiannon for looking after me. I know there are others, but i don't remember very well. My apologies to Ava and her family - I didn't see the attack until it was over.

You can be assured that rabblerousers at the Malkalen Memorial will be quietly killed and the bodies carted off without much fuss.

But then again, I suppose the Malkalen Memorial itself won't be very light-hearted or positive.

Unfortunately current work considerations at this time require my transmissions stay brief. Regardless, I send my best wishes for a speedy recovery for the affected, and a dash of luck in finding those responsible for the whole affair. One can't imagine that much damage to property and persons was managed by a singular attacker.

So I've been awake like, 48 hours working on Ava and Pieter as well as the assassin's body for an investigation. I'll try to do a brief summary for you all. I realize those in both the State AND the Republic want to know everything, but I have to redact a few things to make sure the investigation stays water tight and that neither of these two are at further risk.

If you want further details from the redacted notes, and I know you well enough (i.e. trust you, you know who you are), I'll provide what I can. But for now, don't worry. I'm not going to black everything out.

Ailment Summary:

Victims injected with a neurotoxin classified as a semi-naturally occurring toxin present in [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] native to [REDACTED]. Commonly known in medical fields (toxicology) as [REDACTED]. Engineered chlorobenzene segment of molecular structure noted to block golgi body production of immune response marker proteins to weaken immune system to common bacteria in order to induce a number of internal complications including but not limited to:

(1) Neutropenic fever
(2) Diptheria originated lesions (internal and external)
(3) Tetanus

Please note that the neurotoxin does NOT carry these bacterial infections, but makes the victim susceptible to bacterial infection due to nervous system degredation.

However, the core purpose of this neurotoxin was not to simply assault an individuals capacity to fight infection. Analysis shows aggressive targeting of neural tissue and ganglia through introduction of an phosphorus uptake blocker specific to Na+ channels. This creates a hypersaturated environment within the neuron body resulting in cell death. Initial cell cultures show exponential destructive activity from the neurotoxin after a certain period. I infer this is meant to throw medical personnel off guard and not begin immediate and aggressive counter treatments before analyzing samples in detail, by which time it may be too late to assist the patient. Further research is pending on this inference.

Furthermore, research has determined the hidden and virulent nature of this toxin, as stated before by Scherezad, is meant to destabilize neural patterns essential to complete neural burn and infomorph transfer required for capsuleer cloning. It is my belief the assassin wished to prevent the victim(s) from cloning, essentially killing them or incapacitating them to an extreme level.

Delivery Method:
Barbs composed of calcified deposits and osteocytes artificially molded to form dart like projectiles were used to deliver the neurotoxin. Said projectiles encompassed an amniotic sac-like organ reinforced to hold neurotoxin and deliver it through an excretion mechanism linking from the sac to a pointed part of the projectile.

Projectiles were launched via [REDACTED-INVESTIGATION PENDING].

Patient #1
Name: Avlænkaa Tarkya Surionen
Race: Sebeistor
Age: 36
Height: 1.62 meters
Weight: 54 kg
Ailment: Artifically Modified Sodium Channel Block Neurotoxin
Previous Medical Ailments: [REDACTED]

Summary:
Patient was struck with eight engineered barbs delivering [REDACTED] ml of the neurotoxin. Barbs removed at scene. Mobile hematocycling scrubbers utilized at scene to stabalize. Patient stabilized for estimated forty-five minutes. Transport to secure facility took thirty minutes. Procedures began immediately afterward. Hematomacro IVs and full cycling utilized to clean blood and neural tissue of toxins. Patient stabilized fully after three-hours of surgical treatment.

Patient now admitted in [REDACTED] ward. Currently under medical order to continue bed rest while daily hematology and neurology tests are enacted. Subject pattern stable, neural tissue stable. Minimal residual toxin in interstitial subdermal tissue. Immune response is adequate. Patient is conscious but sleeping due to [REDACTED] ml of [REDACTED] prescribed along with dialysis MEMS to ensure minimal movement and neural activity to expedite recovery. Patient expected to make a full recovery.

Patient #2
Name: Pieter Tuulinen
Race: Civire
Age: 22
Height: 2.04 meters
Weight: 115 kg
Ailment: Artifically Modified Sodium Channel Block Neurotoxin
Previous Medical Ailments: [REDACTED]

Summary:
Patient was struck with one engineered barb delivering [REDACTED] ml of the neurotoxin. Barb removed at scene.

Patient now admitted in secure ward. Currently under medical order to continue bed rest while daily hematology and neurology tests are enacted. Subject lucid, aware, and awake. Current orders are to limit visitation to expedite recovery. Regular neural stimulation needed to continue recovery. However, over-stimulation could overwhelm weakened tissue as information is processed. Patient will be monitored but is expected to make a full recovery.

Antitoxin Research: Antitoxin research is currently progressing to develop a modified delayed action detecting enzyme to target and eliminate or block neurotoxin's effects. Further information pending clinical trials. Once antitox has been proven effective, it will be submitted for review and distribution to medical facilities and research facilities for use in potential cases.

There's something strange in this case. Well, actually, many things, but a few stand out even for those of us who lack the access to the direct information. Maybe it's my time in Amarr Navy Intelligence that makes me stop to think on this issues, but there's a clear inconsistency in the actions of the attacking group, which is clearly organized and big enough in scope and ressources to actually threaten two important and well-known pod pilots. The amount of ressources and power displayed requires a well thought of strategy, serious backing, and probably a well planned conspiracy with clear goals. And this is what doesn't make sense.

So, let's check some facts.

Scherezad wrote:

So, only captain Starfire's clones were sabotaged. According to medical reports, hers were the worst injuries as well. Both things are consistent with her being the main objective of the attack, and captain Tuulinen a collateral damage or a cover up. Good. But let's take a look at the drug, and you'll soon see things don't add up.

Anslo wrote:

So, behind a very elaborate masquerade, the objective of the drug is to force a quick transfer to the infomorph, which then will introduce a modification in brain patterns that will become permanent even with clone changing. But, why do that when you've sabotaged the clones?

This leaves two doors. First option, we have a sloppy ending to a case. The attackers wanted captain Starfire dead, and sabotaged her clones and focused on her. Thing is, if they knew the clones were sabotaged and they wanted her dead... why not just shoot her?

There's a second approach: the objective wasn't actually captain Starfire, but she was a cover up. She was to die and take a fall, looking for an increased tension probably between the Minmatarr of her clan and their natural enemies which would soon be seen to be guilty: us Amarr, probably, but maybe the Gallente after the case of the attack on Midular. Meanwhile, captain Tuulinen would recover but would be sent to his clones, carrying the infection forever inside of him. An infection for which, presumably, the attackers would have the cure or, more probably, the medication that can halt it temporarily... thus gaining control over captain Tuulinen's assets.

Without access to forensic data on the attack, nor the recording of the event or other intelligence evidence, going beyond this point is complicated to say the least. But, as is probably clear from my argument, I believe option two is the correct one, which in turn brings up another matter: it's not over.

We're speaking of a intelligent, ressourceful group, with an agenda both for captain Tuulinen and for creating conflict and a great skill to create smoke screens both through the choice of targets and in the working of the virus. Such a group has enacted a complex plan in three steps (sabotage of clones, attack, and the aftermath) and has been able to plan with many consequences and steps ahead, only thwarted thanks to captain Scherezed and captain Anslo's thorough analysis before taking each step, preventing the spreading of the infection to new clones of captain Tuulinen.

But, if all this is correct, why stop here? A group so capable, so twisted, and so manipulative probably has a plan b and plan c in place. And, with all these amount of smoke and mirrors, they may even have expected this whole analysis of the situation and the actions of those involved, and be one step ahead, with a plan that hasn't yet unfolded completely as it may seem.

Thus, this group has proven to be determined, ressourceful, with skill to lie and deceive, and planning ahead; with agents willing to sacrifice themselves, and mirrors to keep your thoughts bouncing. If any of this all makes any sense, such an enemy is still on the move, one step ahead or one step behind, but still moving.
