Great, just when I can vote 14 times, I have a hard time finding just one candidate that I like.Sad
Ooooh, the irony.

With the 8th Council of Stellar Management elections kicking off, you might not know all the candidates and what they stand for. In this Community Spotlight, we take a look at each candidate and provide you with a brief platform, bio, and links to more in-depth information on them.

You can read up on all of the candidates here.

I'm sorry but I don't see how this equates into being a Community Spotlight. This is nothing more than an advert to encourage the playerbase to vote. While I do agree that everyone should vote, spotlighting CSM8 Candidates is premature, especially since they haven't even done anything yet. Not to mention the CSM is something that was created by CCP, not by a member of the Eve Online Community. Now if this had been a spotlight on the volunteers in the ISD and more importantly, the CCL, then I wouldn't have posted this reply.

Over the years there has been a lot of different people who have contributed much of their personal time and effort in helping the Eve Online Community. For example (blast from the past) Akita T and her forum thread - Beginner's guide to * MAKING ISK * in EVE-Online - or more recently, St Mio with her app and thread - Deep Space Probe Exploration Guide or Codeguard with her app and thread - [Sofware] EveRefinery - Make money from your loot. Talk about a really big blast from the past, Fitz VonHeise and his forum thread - A Wide Variety Of EVE Knowledge , Or . (random title by sharkbait).

I'm sure with a little bit of effort, you can find a lot more of them. Hell, I don't really like saying this but even 'The Mittani' and Goonswarm merit a spotlight, at least for being the neighborhood bully.

Seems to me the past few spotlights have been quickly posted without much thought. I thought the whole purpose of the Community Spotlight was.......and I quote from the very first Community Spotlight Dev Blog :

Quote:
Introduction

The EVE community is an incredibly vibrant collection of clever people and organizations who provide passion, innovation and excitement within the EVE Universe. These amazing Capsuleers have created countless wonderful EVE related projects, events and initiatives throughout the years and thus helped to create a unique EVE Online experience.

Since the beginning of EVE we have witnessed many contributors engaged in endless hours helping the EVE Community by either setting up events and tools or indirectly by providing an infrastructure for sharing information or letting players efficiently help other players.

I find it highly displeasing that i cannot turn in an empty ballot..

My vote shouldn't be discounted simply because i don't like any of the candidates >_>

Of the 31 candidates, there's not one single one whom you wouldn't think that you have at least something in which you agree with them on?

Really?

What DO you want from your CSM candidates?

I actually agree.

The ability to abstain is important.

It allows people to protest about the system, while at the same time be counted by the system.

Whether that be liking none of the candidates, disliking the CSM or whatever.

This crusade to have no wasted votes went to far, when they chose to remove the abstain button.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

Well, he's from Shadow Cartel so I'm sure he'd start with "someone who lives in lowsec on a day-to-day basis".

It's not a controversial thing to realize the list of candidates is pretty dismal this year, at least as far as diversity goes.

Pretty much this.

I would like it if at least one candidate shared my general play-style/Concerns.

I'm sure many of these guys are capable and good. But as long as low sec has not a single rep i want the ability to abstain.

By not voting you reinforce the perception that lo-sec isn't a big enough voting demographic to give a lo-sec candidate a chance.

That statement is utterly devoid of reason..

Me posting here reinforces this, but not voting doesn't...

And i'm not talking about not voting, i'm talking about giving in an empty ballot as a statement. If you don't turn in a ballot you are considered as someone who wasn't interested. Giving in an empty one shows you were interested but didn't feel like you could vote for anyone in good conscience... I would have hoped that someone running would be able to grasp this.

Low sec is more than big enough, but its broken down into way smaller power blocks than other areas and is extremely disorganized.

Fine, if you're determined to talk yourself out of being represented by any of the people who are prepared to run, I can't help you. If you'd given me some information or a perspective on what lo-sec needs from CSM8, I might have been able to be some use to you by maybe suggesting a candidate who would at least be in favour of some of the things you want, even if not all of them.

If all you want out of the CSM is someone you can think of as "your guy" warming a seat, you're on your own. Enjoy your political irrelevance until someone from lo-sec decides they want to be on the CSM, I guess.

the ability to abstain is a pretty important part of the democratic process, not the most important but i think it should be there.

And how the hell does what i vote for influence what the candidates will represent? will there be a damn census showing the CSM members what player type voted for them the most?

I'm sure there are CSM candidates who have some low sec issues they would like to see addressed but thats really not the point. Your last line completely underlines the point, if you don't vote you are irrelevant because you are deemed to not have interest.

If you vote and turn in empty you have showed that you have interest and you would like someone to vote for and your vote should not be put in the same bin as peoples who don't give a **** about the CSM.

WTF?????

This thread topic is not for a debate about who to vote for or why you should or shouldn't vote. There's plenty of other threads for that.

It's about the Community Spotlight being on CSM8.

I've already made my reasons clear why I disagree with the choice for this Community Spotlight. Please stay on topic and post your pleasure or displeasure with this Community Spotlight choice..

By the way, since we're on the subject - I voted for the names I recognized (about 8 candidates) and yes, Malcanis was in my top three.
