Music of New Eden. What do the Big Four listen to? My thoughts.

Every culture, no matter what time period they came from, who was in charge, or where they came from has created their own music. It seems to be something that is programmed in all of us, the enjoyment of listening, playing, and writing music.

Though one thing that isn't talked about much in the EVE lore is music. We get an occasional reference to a singer here and there but no idea what they actually sound like and what their style is.

If the music in the former Jukebox is meant to represent EVE then it seems techno/electronic music is in style, though I'm not sure if that's just for our enjoyment or what the actual cultures of New Eden listen too. I'm not very sure about the former though. It wouldn't make sense for the diverse cultures of EVE to have the same uniform music style.

So, I've speculated a bit and came up with some ideas of the music the Big Four empires enjoy. I'm not going to go and analyze all of the other factions, just the Big Four.

Oh, and before I begin speculating, PLEASE do not turn this into a music debate, disguised as a "which EVE faction is better" debate, save that for the IGS.

Also, feel free to share your thoughts on what the music of New Eden would be like! These are just my ideas, if you have a different interpretation I'd love to hear it!

Amarr

Probably the easiest to start off with. One might think "Well duh, church music!" but I suspect that thousands of years into the future, while traditional hymms will be popular, I feel that the Amarr would of added a little more modern aspects to their compositions.

If any of you are familiar with the groups "The Immediate" and "Two Steps from Hell" you might know what I'm talking about, I have examples below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj5OI_JuB0U

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASj81daun5Q

The psuedo-Latin choirs are probably makes this sound "Amarrian" to me.

Gallente

It's a little hard to pin down what Gallente music might be with it's very diverse cultures that have melted into the Federation. There have been several references to giant stadiums filled with thousands if not millions of people enjoying a concert in the Federation. For some reason I got the image of a K-pop concert.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX372ZwXOEM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJ_WAwHpCeA

Giant audiences, flashy colors, skimpy outfits, electronic sound effects, it just seems like something that the Gallente would enjoy.

Minmatar

Minmatar is a little more challenging. It's obviously going to have "tribal" sounds to it, but I doubt they will be having Pow-Wows thousands and thousands of years into the future so they are going to probably have updated their traditional music to match modern times. It's probably going to be rough, dark, and gritty given their history. I was thinking maybe some sort of heavy metal metal genre.

I don't listen to that type of music though and I'm not going to act like I know what I'm talking about regarding it. If you have any examples of what would fit the Minmatar please let me know!

Caldari

The Caldari is probably the hardest to identify. For starters, they don't really have any real world example that we can base them off of. They are hyper capitalist, but centered around community and the greater good. They draw influences from Nordic peoples, but also Japanese and Chinese traditions. They are also run by a dictator and are significantly more militaristic than the other nations.

I'm not really sure where to put them. They are either singing and marching to the tunes of North Korea...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrJ4smYHpac

Or for the clear Nordic influence, I was thinking something like Rammstein

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4K6ZxDwi34

Maybe both? I'm not sure. If anyone knows of music that would combine the two perfectly I'd like to know!

The Caldari I picture more as a taste of the government (What you can call the board of Directors) making stuff similar to the Korean Chant you made. Another option is Nazi Germany WWII.

Germany enjoyed their Classical flare to music during WWII as seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAvz9hg7IUw

As for private non propoganda music Id say something along these lines: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAlIZlB5zag

Good choices, I especially like the second choice for the Caldari as it seems to fit the setting of EVE the most. I did consider classical music for the Caldari as well, only problem is that it seems to leave out the Asian traditions that they seem to have as well.

I realized the Tau Theme from the first set of Dawn of War games seems to fit the Caldari a bit well. It combines an Asian and European style together pretty well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhXCQFxGqMM

As for the Minmatar music, yeah something like that, just more modern.

The Tau theme is very accurate of the Caldari in my opinion. I do not foresee the Caldari using many lyrics and if they do it would be most likely a government made or troop made marching chant like I posted. The Korean one you posted as well. The way I picture the Caldari music, very much like the Tau theme. Lots of harmonic sounds of relaxation mixed with the fleeting charge towards victory for the state closing slowly with a satisfied sorrow that honors national heros like Admiral Tovil-Toba. I picked my original choice of modern due to its classical styled undertone in a synthetic manner.

As for the Minmatar I pictured something like this with a few chants in it.

This is what some people have classified as Modern Tribal Electric (Its what the artist calls it)

When I think of what the Gallente would listen to, I think of pop or pop rock, maybe something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2-HOaIO7Wg

Metal for Minmatar? This popped into mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20u8deTbmbk :D
I can easily see some Brutors mixing it up in a moshpit or a wall of death.

I imagine the Amarr would mix their church chants up with some classical music, but that's outside of my spectrum of favourite musical tastes so I don't have any examples.

No idea about the Caldari, but somehow I think of jazz or bossa nova..? Don't know why.

Pretty fitting choices! I like the Minmatar one the best.

Caldari with Jazz might work, though I'm not sure, there is so much grey area with them.

I can easily picture a fraction of Minmatar music closely resembling punk or garage : cheap to produce, fast and noisy.

Caldari:
I think Daft Punk's Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger could be their national anthem.Blink
In all seriousness, when I think Caldari, I think techno, Rammstein and Nine Inch Nails, and lots of (electronic) soundscapes.

Gallente:
Radiohead, The Prodigy, Biebers and Britneys, Rage Against the Machine, Aphex Twin, along with a mix of the best from other cultures.

Minmatar:
Metal, rap, folk music and stuff like Evanescence and Stellamara. And this is of course also clearly a Minmatar party.

Amarr:
Tool, Era, Faithless, and stuff like this and arabic pop.

In the backstory, we've got Midna Lyre, the pop star who I always envisioned as a Tori Amos-type. There's also Starved Fedo the heavy metal band. And then there's always this.

Thanks for sharing this. Seems that the Gallente like heavy metal as well and Ni Kunni have their own musical taste. Use of Heavy Brass and String instruments with Amarr is also confirmed

Hmmm, What an interesting thought...

I think it would be hard to definitely pin down a "type" to any given nation since I think there would be vast differences between even the styles of music of different regions/systems in those nations based off of the influences they would recieve from their neighbours....

Though I think it would be fun to mash styles together to see what sort of interesting combinations would result...

like mashing gregorian chanting with reggae, death metal with country music, classical instrumental and operatic jazz/blues...
