Green lines connecting stars in system map?

While flying around I entered a system where I saw a green line connecting a bunch of stars - is this just decoration or does it mean anything?

Thanks!

It's your autopilot route. not useful but kinda cool.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

Another neat new feature, which is toggled through the new autopilot settings menu by selecting “Show route path in space”, will reveal one of our best kept secrets; the stars in the space scene nebula actually represent the solar systems of New Eden. By plotting the route in space you’ll feel more like you’re actually travelling through space while burning up your route, rather than just appearing at arbitrary locations. In the near future we’re hoping to add some neat stuff to this feature such as making the stars interactive. Also, we (as in Team Game of Drones) didn’t really do any of the hard route plotting work. CCP Mannapi did. We’re just here to rob the credit. That’s how we roll.

Hi there,

I first got the idea for this when I was orienting the star gates to point to the actual stars, a long time ago. This was a pet project that I did in a few evenings in my spare time. My hope was to bring more depth to the background and a sense of direction when traveling long distances.

I am glad you like it. To those who don't see the point: I guess I should have done something else in my spare time :)

That someone at CCP took the time to do this as a pet project and its such a subconcious improvement in the game - is worthy of recognition! Really cool new feature I've noticed since rejoining too!

Thanks Tau Cabalander for putting together the nice outline!

They intend to expand on it further, so you can check the activity stats of each system from the route in space.

I imagine and hope this will be able to be done while warping to the next gate.

Now that would be incredibly useful!

Also, the nebulas are now actual volumetric clouds (spanning light-years), rather than fixed background images. From Caldari space you can see a red smudge of a nebula in the direction of Minmatar space (if you set autopilot to there, the green line ends up somewhere in the red nebula), and from Minmatar space you can look back and see the faint smudge of the blue Caldari nebula.

Pretty cool.
