“On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people.”

“Odd,” said Arthur, “I thought you said it was a democracy.”

“I did,” said Ford. “It is.”

“So,” said Arthur, hoping he wasn’t sounding ridiculously obtuse, “why don’t the people get rid of the lizards?”

“It honestly doesn’t occur to them,” said Ford. “They’ve all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they’ve voted in more or less approximates to the government they want.”

“You mean they actually vote for the lizards?”

“Oh yes,” said Ford with a shrug, “of course.”

“But,” said Arthur, going for the big one again, “why?”

“Because if they didn’t vote for a lizard,” said Ford, “the wrong lizard might get in.”

Except people have now gotten so bad in this world, that now they believe that if they don't vote at all, that they are not responsible for the wrong lizard getting in.

This has got to be one of the worst ideas ever thought up by the human race.

If you do not vote, you are just as much to blame as those that voted for the wrong lizard. Any argument against that is purely just people trying to dodge the responsibility of actually making a decision.

So far I have not seen anyone who I recognize to be from Null sec, failing to make a decision, only 1 person from Wormholes but where to the majority seem to come from? Hi-sec. Which then begs the question, are Hi-sec people risk adverse, or incapable of making decisions. They complain when Hi-sec is nerfed at all, but they are to lazy to spend a few minutes every year voting.

The fact that people would put forward the argument that, they have refused to help guide the destiny of this game, so therefore they have the right to complain about the result, is just insane. They have chosen to opt out of this process by not voting, and frankly I see no reason to let them opt in when, those who will represent those who vote is chosen.

Problem two: representation on the CSM. CCP Veritas pointed out the error in my thinking, what I want is not actually fair representation of ALL EVE players, but of THOSE WHO VOTE (it follows from there that the more people that vote, the better representation we get). The current voting system is sufficient, but there are many vastly better systems out there.

So even CCP Xhagen believes that failure to vote, means no voice. So Vote or STFU for the next 12 months.

We really need a forum tag, that says "I Voted", just so we know who to tell to bugger of with their whining. If you voted and lost so be it, at least you stood up and said "Count me in as part of the Community", rather than hid in a hole at election time only to stick your head out afterwards and complain that it is too bright.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

Voted a few days ago, but does anyone else think that the name Malcanis belongs to an evil warlord? I mean I voted for him because he seems like a reasonable person and well versed in the Universe of EVE Online game, but his characters name - how do we know he won't just try to become the evil Emperor of EVE?

Ponies!  We need more ponies!

This is the place to show you pride for voting for CSM8 and making your voice heard.

For those who have yet to vote, you can check out the candidates by clicking here and fill in your ballot to vote by clicking here.

I can promise that I am spiritually hugging all of the voters in this thread.

Voted Korvin, Psychotic Monk and Malcanis.

No faction warfare candidate such as I saw. Lots of goon candidates. An outright admission that CSM 7 was defunct from a candidate.

At least it was only 3 clicks.

Short form:

The CSM are an advocacy group, and a sounding board for CCP to run ideas past. They can't /tell/ CCP to do anything.

CCP come up with ideas, and run them past the CSM, who get to say if they think the idea is good or bad, or just needs tweaking. They can come up with ideas themselves, and tell CCP, but that's not exactly their primary function.

CCP can freely ignore the CSM, of course. They're only /one/ of the stakeholders in the process.

In fw is that all the candidates... is it just me or is it just null sec candidates mixes with a couple high sec / casual gamer candidates. I'm in fw and would like someone to be a voice for fw... or did I just not see the fw candidate.

Actually they can tell CCP to do anything but even I suspect the CSM is viewed more as a PR tool for T20 & Incarna eff ups emergencies to calm the raging masses from grabbing pitchforks, shooting Jita monuments & unsubbing in mass

Confirmed Malcanis in RL is the actor that played Darth Sidious in the Star Wars movies Evil

I thought he was the RL influence behind the "Emperor" in the Star Wars movies.

Apart from being a conduit / sounding board for CCP of player sentiment / good designs / etc. they also provide a means for player supported ideas to reach CCP. You can, for example, raise a topic on the appropriate forum section, have it supported and force the CSM to look at it. If they vote for it it is passed on to CCP for consideration.
