Last I heard was Yes they want to do them but there's a massive problem in the way - the ship models dont support anything but turrets. In order to add them in they need to redo them and thats part of the drive behind the rework thats c urrently going on.

Unfortunately you will have to wait.

Put missiles launchers on a little stick like a turret, then dont allow it to turn and remain static. case closed.

They zoom in close to see what type armaments you are using....like AC or Arties. Once a FC knows if he is facing a short or close range fleet, then he can determine how best to attack it.

Keep in mind they wouldn't have to be box launchers. Could be silos recessed into the ship's structure on larger vessels, pretty simple as far as modelling goes. Look at how a missile submarine launches its payload.

Not if the model icons are anything to go by. Keep in mind the short range missiles are supposedly unguided according to lore, so they would have to be aimed.

Lore wise?

Smart Missiles have smart warheads that shape charge thier explosions for optimal impact which is why skills effect it as further understanding helps program the attack profile better.

Dumbfire Missiles have Standard Warheads they just explode and take nothing for account. But they dont have any programming needed per launch.

So I did talk to our Art Dept and this is currently not on the drawing board. Artists are committed to other projects at present so there is no one available at the minute to start work on this. If this situation changes we will definitely let you know Smile

Thank you for the update.
Please at least consider an easy fix to the currently poor animation of stacked missile launchers.
Make it so that it launches the missiles one after each other with very small pauses between them, instead of all at the same time.
That alone would at least help it suck less. :)

Animation is tied into a model though...

If I remember correctly from other CCP forum posts, the work the Art department has is secondary in adding missile turrets.

Apparently CCP will have to delve into the physics simulation to add them in, something they don't like doing because it's essentially hacked together C++ code from 2000, so adding new stuff or even changing old stuff ends up breaking things.

Old code was done in Python actually C#/C++ is what carbonization is doing but as we know its nowhere near complete gutting the old gushy and squishy soft guts of the game and throwing new superior mechanical guts of a machine back in.

Pity you could'nt do something about it youself, like, ungrouping launchers and staggering launches..... Roll

Why disallow them from turning? Some missile launchers do turn, just FYI.

It would be okay that they aren't implemented... if it weren't for the fact that it should have been a feature when the game was released....

8 years ago eve was freshly transitioning from a 2d to 3d playing scape.

Also they where going to make it so that every module modified how the ship looked. That idea was scrapped but then recycled for tech 2 ships which is why alot of classic tech 2 ships have extra doodads while more mordern ones dont.

That's a feature and is probably one of the main reasons they haven't done turrets already.

Hint: Having one missile to calculate trajectory for is more efficient than calculating the trajectory for <=8 separate missiles.

The graphical model doesn't have to represent the physical model. The client could render a linked "supermissile" as a cluster of separate missiles, and the simulation wouldn't need to know.

yes because a square box with some holes in front would be too hard for the art department to make right ?
