Republic Security Services to cross Federal border at Bei at 20:00 to extradite criminal illegally

It has been 6 hours since the horrendous shooting in Caille.

Republic Security Services Field Agent Administrator Abja Etbald of the Huggar Office has announced they will enter the Federation from Bei to extradite the criminal with or without Federation approval.

While the cultural and political significance of Karin Midular cannot be denied, the fact that Caille has barely had any time to even investigate the crime shows a petulant disrespect for Gallentean due process, and an arrogance in assuming the Federation should simply cave in to 'respecting the tribes' in the name of political correctness.

If RSS merely waited, I don't know, at least a day, a formal extradition could be organized. This is reactionary impatience at its worst.

Wouldn't that be an act of war ?

"According to highly placed sources within the Minmatar government, Sanmatar Malaetu Shakor has been in direct contact with Federation President Jacus Roden, making a strongly worded demand that the shooter be extradited to the Minmatar Republic for questioning and trial. The same sources indicate that the President's response was negative, citing internal investigation and damage control at home as the primary reasons."

From a recent news report. Mr. Roden has already refused a direct request for extradition. While I cannot condone violation of sovereignty as in this case, the Matari are right to wonder at Roden's refusal in light of the suspect's ethnic Gallente race and willing surrender to law enforcement.

I hope that this will end without further bloodshed.

It would be absurd to assume that the Republic would start a violent politically suicidal incident with their main allies over one terrorist, regardless of their personal desires.

If they want this man for trial and punishment, I see no reason not to hand this person over - once the Federal side of the investigation and due process is over.

Crimes have been committed against both of our people. Let's not let the investigation of these Crimes get bogged down by Jurisdictional Arguments over who should be investigating.

To be frank, considering the devastation and co-ordination required for this attack, it's highly likely for the Shooter to have been working alone, even if he was the only one caught at the scene. It makes sense for our respective Law Enforcement Arms to co-operate with each other to bring the maximum possible resources to bear on completely rooting out this individual's support network and avoiding a repeat of this atrocity in either of our territories.

If the tables were turned and Blaque, Foritian, or Roden were killed by a Minmatar in Minmatar space, I'm sure they would be doing the same thing.

What makes you think any of us give a **** about high-ranking politicians? There's no sense of interstellar kinship as amongst the Minmatar.

I advise you to surrender said terrorist, if you think he's guilty. The Matari will NOT brook interference in their reponse to the attempted assassination of a highly placed member of their society.

I know this is... uncomfortable... in a strictly legalistic sense, but your strongeset ally will NOT understand if you drag your feet on this issue!

Here's the thing, Pieter.

Were the situation reversed, and it were a Matari that shot a Federation official in Republic space, you can guarantee the Republic would flip its **** about the prospect of turning him over to the Federation if the Federation demanded an immediate extradition.

They cannot have it both ways.

The attack happened on Federation soil, in Federation space, and is under Federation jurisdiction. If they want to work with the Federation on this, I'm sure accommodations would be made. But making demands and threats of violence not even eight ******* hours after the incident is not the way to go.

Midular, "Ray of Matar" or not, political figure or not, tribal chief or not, is one woman. There were fifty-eight other people killed, and three hundred and three other wounded besides her. It is incredibly disrespectful to the families of those people to extradite that one man just because some person with connections is among the victims.

For the Matari to make such a stink about this is hypocritical, with all the demands of respect for their traditions and ways that are made on a regular basis. How about some respect for the other people who were injured or actually killed, eh? What about them? Are they somehow lesser than this one woman, to the point that it is unreasonable to respect the procedures of law where the incident actually happened?

As I said before, if this had happened in the Republic with a Matari shooter and it was a Federation official who had been shot, you can rest assured that the Republic would refuse any similar demands from the Federation because the incident happened on their soil and was perpetrated by one of their own. There would be no "sure, we'll give him to you right away!" Just a "no, we will deal with this, it's under our jurisdiction."

This was an event I went to every year with my parents when I was growing up, partly due to the fact that it was within walking distance of where I lived, but mostly because they felt it was important to expose me to other cultures as early as possible.

I would have been there this morning, with my mother, if I hadn't decided late last night that I really needed to go home for the first time since the 22nd of March instead of staying with her another day to go to the festival like we used to.

I know she was planning to go regardless of whether I stayed or not. I haven't heard anything from her yet. So excuse me for being extremely blunt about this: this is an incredibly ******** move on the RSS' part, and it's not going to end well for anyone.

Patience is a virtue. Unfortunately it is not as common as it should be.

Morwen sums it up nicely, and I too hope her mother is alright.

I was present at the standoff between the Federation and the RSS. There was a certain level of thickheaded responses from both sides and the tensions were certainly high until the DED arrived. I believe the best way to handle the situation is with a joint tribunal of both Federation and Republic officials. Let them both sort out the punishment for the one who caused this tragedy. My guess is that the desired punishment isn't so different between both sides.

Sources from Colelie report that a Republic Security Service task force jumped into Federal space there. After a brief confrontation with the Federation Navy, the Directive Enforcement Division intervened and the situation resolved with perhaps only feelings hurt.

Wait, so CONCORD stopped a Matari fleet after crossing a sovereign border unilaterally?

As one who was present at the confrontation and who observed the war of words, I have grave concerns. One itchy trigger finger and disaster could have happened.

Maybe the prisoner needs to be held in a more neutral location while both sovereignties conduct a joint investigation. Military standoffs involving not just faction Navies but war-eager capsuleers are not a good idea. I have offered the use of the HAMRI Yulai office as a temporary holding location for the prisoner and as a meeting place for invistigative teams of both the Gallente and the Minmatar.

There were some there today who were itching for a fight. I am glad that it did not happen. Now, how to prevent it from happening as tensions continue over this incident...

Having been present I can confirm that following a standoff between the Federal Navy and Republic Security Services in the Gallente system of Colelie ended peacefully after CONCORD officer Odo Korachi successively resolved the situation and the RSS returned to Minmater space in the Bei system after promising Gallente forces that this was not the end of this.

Of course the Shakorite regime wants the perpetrator in their custody as soon as possible. It makes it so much easier to prevent them talking that way.

As angry as we are regarding the attack on our people and as much as we want to have those responsible handed over, we do need to respect our longtime ally and give them time to investigate the incident and question the accused. Hopefully calmer heads will prevail and prevent this matter from harming Matari/Gallente relations.
