as you can see from the replies you've already gotten: suicide ganking in high sec isn't a simple operation

I suggest just going into low sec, you'll get many actual fights there and you don't have to calculate all this nonsense before you do it.

While I still want to try a few good ganks at somepoint, Haedonism Bot's comments (the last one in particular) and most of the others have brought me to the conclusion that you're about right. I'm probably too green and generally lacking in gun skills (Have most of the rocket based skills up though!) because I couldn't resist the lure of missiles/rockets... perhaps that was my first noob mistake Ugh

How low does the sec of the system need to be for me to be able to open fire without reprecussions? I know Ganking in low will be less of a problem aswell, per the CONCORD time to response study posted previously.

My plans atm are to (next time if can afford the time to get on, RL is time consuming) looks for targets in other ways be it ninja-ing someone's loot from an exploration site or flying down to low on a roam.

in 0.1 to 0.5 you can attack anywhere without getting CONCORDed. If you agrees targets that aren't already criminals on gates or stations you will still take fire from sentry guns. In 0.0 and below you can attack anybody anywhere without those troublesome NPCs getting in the way.

Don't get too discouraged about ganking, though. The info I basically presented was a little more advanced than you necessarily need to get started. It is perfectly fine to just get in the highest DPS ship you've got, head for a 0.5 system, find a Retriever or something that will be squishy, and blap it. There's a good chance that you will succeed. And believe me, it is really fun to see them go pop. If you follow the skill plan at www.minerbumping.com and you can be ready to fly a Catalyst and assist more ambitious ganks in only a few hours. Head for the New Order's current stomping grounds in Caldari high sec if you want to get started, and we'll show you the ropes. Lowsec roaming is fun, too though. There's a whole range of criminal activities out there for you to try if ganking doesn't sound like your thing after all.

In 0.1 to 0.4 systems, there is no CONCORD. Apart from other players, the only things which care if you shoot people are the guns arounds gates and stations.

I'd never claim the low sec life is for everyone, but I've been having a blast so far, and I think everyone ought to at least try it out for a day or two--the earlier in their EVE life, the better.
