How to counter ships that can kite?

Every time I go solo PVP I get killed by something that just kites.

It's quite aggravating.

What would be your tips in countering this?

(a) learn to slingshot well and you might just catch a lot of kiters (I do, anyway).

(b) use a weapon system that can deal damage at kiting ranges if possible: long range systems or long range ammunition for the short range systems.

(c) if you can't beat them, join them: kite.

or just quit soloing as it is died out already :P

Kiting ships often have either low dps or low tank, and thus have trouble dealing with, respectively, strong tanks and webby/scrammy things.

Eve has no solo pvp. if you specialize to catch kiters then you will be back here again in a few days. Asking how to deal with something else you opened yourself up to.

I love how many people insist that solo pvp is dead or dieing yet I know loads of solo'ers and corp focusing on that style of gameplay.

To the OP

It basically comes down to how you setup the fight. If you are in a scram range brawler you need to be able to get them to land on top of you or you land on top of them.
Agony (and a lot of other people) call this 'fishing' . You can also use things like FW plex's as well.
for eg. If you are chasing a known kite ship and they are in a plex then don't go in as they will probably be setup at range and will nab you as soon as you appear. But if you are in a plex sitting on the warpin then you'll stand a decent chanc of cacthing them and murdering them.

Bascially the kiter is the counter to the brawler and vice versa but only if you engage on your terms this is the key to good solo pvp rather than ship types/fits.

Another method os using long range weapons with a scram kiter setup like a rail incursus/arty rifter etc. If you get caught by a low tank kiter then you can at least swap ammo and hit them at range. you won't be able to keep a hold of them but if they get cocky or not paying attention then you may well kill them.

Actually catching a mwd'ing frig in an AB frig pretty much relies on the kiter making a big mistake and more often than not just gets yoou killed but at least you can try to catch them and hope.

but solo is dead, I have to justify the blobbing somehow! love the blob, solo is dead, I went pvping solo once and got blobbed, blobbedity blob *oh god I'm dead inside* blobey blob blob!

personally I love small gang, but have flown solo a bit. I should probably go join RvB for a bit, as I haven't really been in game since before all the teiricide.

Other issue is that with a mwd brawler you are pretty much dead to an AB brawler if you can't effectively hit for the entire scram range.

I don't get it, how do you kite in a brawling anything?

Quite a few good frig brawlers have excellent projection in scram range and run mwd/scram/web, Harpy is my personal favourite. There's also rail fit ab frigs like the Incursus which can beat brawlers by kiting in scram range and still hit to past 24km and since most kiters are very frail you'll usually drive them off at least. Another option is droneboats like Tristan/Ishkur as they can set bonused drones on kiting frigs far away but they're less effective as they can be killed and if you lose all your drones you'll probably die.
