So, clearly the US Navy is evolving into the Amarran Navy:
Lasers go pew pew pew.

It's not a fully mature system, and won't pluck artillery shells out of teh sky, but it *will* put your eye out! Also will put out your drones' eyes, and sink your flotilla of small craft. All for about US$1 per shot. (base module still costs US$32Mil - about ISK 3.8B)

So - Who wants to join up, see the world, and melt other nations' stuff?

Yeah, I want a disco setup on my cruiser or GTFO.

It is cool. There's a similar project here for a missile defence system but they're having issues with the cooling as far as what theyve reported in the papers. And thats affecting it's RoF.

I'd love to see the cooling system they have on that.

It's a solid state laser, so cooling shouldn't be terribly complicated - At least not at this power level.

We always have one over in the Red Sea region. It's only a couple of jumps away so I'm sure they could pull it if dec's were made. I wouldn't be surprised though if we had one lurking somewhere waiting to be hot dropped.

Not from the Red Sea. PacFleet has several. Third Fleet has five all by itself.

Oh, BTW: It's the George Washington (CVN-73) that's hanging out off the NK coast line. The GW is out of Yokosuka, Japan (Seventh Fleet).

Ten active, one inactive (The Big E, undergoing de-fueling prior to decom), two under construction, one planned.

Operational tempo for the active carriers is fairly hard-core. We need at least 12 to keep the tempo to a reasonable pace.

I want to see the railgun and some UAVs fitted into some cool looking ship, like maybe the littoral combat ship for example. Then we'd have a Gallente vessel ready to bring glory to the federation.

Missiles and light drones, too. Including anti-shipping Harpoon missiles in some configurations, which would probably be classed as HAMs in EVE parlance.

OTOH, those aren't flimsy collections of spars - I've been aboard a couple - but they are definitely speed tankers.
