Drones to prevent cloaking

So, I abandoned a few hundred drones around a gate to prevent the stabbed cloaky ships passing through from......passing through.

I've done this previously, after having created a petition asking if it was against the rules. The GM gave me the green light.

I've seen various pirate organizations do it on many occasions. But, apparently when a member of the minmatar militia petitions it, a GM shows up 5 minutes later, deletes the drones and gives you a warning involving potentially being permabanned.

Fair warning.

Ahem, your claims that GMs and CCP staff favour your immediate enemy are naught but typical amarr whining and tinfoil hattery.

Here's a string of fairy lights, if you look at them right and take blurry photos you can pretend it's alien spaceships come to abduct you and take you to the CIA/NWO moonbase again.

Chop chop.

Last I heard this is one of those situations that entirely depends on what GM you get. Some will say it's fine as long as it does not cause lag, others will consider it wrong and give you **** for it.

Yes but didn't you hear? All but one of the GMs are in the minmatar militia. We know it's true because amarrbot3000 tells me so when i shake it.

Well, he apparently didn't care to look at the petition that gave me the green light.

I know several people who have encounters GM's which didn't tolerate this.

E: TBH I fully support the GM's decision.

Exploit? You mean, preventing a ship from cloaking because of game mechanics?

1. As you so rightly pointed out, every member of the GM team is a minmatar sympathiser so it's only an exploit when YOU do it.

In fact I plan to do exactly the same thing to you and I'll get away with it as well MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

2. Anything that might cause lag is an exploit. Dropping hundreds of drones counts as this, the first GM that told you otherwise is wrong.

the legit strategy vs lag exploit issues are conflated because anything that has enough debris in space to effectively prevent cloaking will meet the threshold for causing client-side lag, making it an exploit. If you drop 10 drones and prevent cloaking, its not an exploit, but you won't catch many people that way.

I use this tactic frequently. Instead of drones or cans, I use corpses.

I jump into my target system with an alt with a viator filled with corpses. I ordit the gate at 12km and drop corpse after corpse, changing orbits every couple minutes.

It works...and most player who dont have biomass added to overview never know what hit them.

Also, corpses dont despawn after 2 hrs, so the camping can last all day! and unlike cans, there is no wait time between deployments.

youre welcome.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Good to know that back in the days before the Kurni/Isbra gate dropping more than 2 HUNDRED CANS on the Eszur gate in Hof to decloak my Tengu was a legitimate move and that only drones are illegal.

(No, I am not mad. I obviously didn't lose that Tengu to T.R.I.E.D or mothra noobies who lose Abaddons to 2 frigates with 5 of them on grid.)

I like this idea. If you kill something fast enough, they won't know what tactic to petition against.

Petition warfare and anti-petition warfare is a new dimension to consider against the new generation of entitled players.

I dont think it's even anything to do with lag

a normal subcap ship can only field 5 drones at a time. Dropping hundreds is clearly not the intended use for them. It's almost bordering on automated play.

However I don't think CCP will have a problem with you running multiple accounts with drones out

failing that: make some friends.

don't forget:

- not only GMs but also DEVs and CSMs works against Amarr Militia
- the whole FW tiers are designed to give advantage to minmatar
- the warzone geography is desinged against the amarr
- plex rats' ecm is designed against amarr
- the roleplay background too is designed against amarr!
- amarr cannot do mission (NPC are against them)
- amarr are forced to undock and do stuff to earn some ISK (not like us minmatar that get a weekly salary)
- amarr are poors, they can barely fit a T1 cruiser. While Minnie are dirty ritch so they can throw away fleet of hundreds and hundreds SFI like where rifters.

Completely non-militia we have had similar happen a couple of months ago. It went something like this, after we had beautifully spiked the P3 gate in IPAY to prevent the immediate recloaking of strat cruisers and other covops:

  • P3 scout: “Loki just landed on the IPAY gate” “Jumping”
  • Camp FC: “Setup for decloak guys” “There he is … go, go, go!”
  • Camp FC: “Damn, there he goes. Good try.”
  • Loki pilot in local: “Exploit! Petition filed.”

10 minutes later

  • Observant fleet member: “New neut, no gate flash”
  • Scouts: “No-one came thru EIDI or Q-. Must be a logon.”
  • Fleet member: “It’s a CCP GM guys, look at the character name.”
  • Camp FC: “Quick, see if you can get a probe scan on him. It’ll be a great kill.”
  • Fleet member: “Hey, where did all our cans go?”
  • Camp FC: “$#@%, he’s removed them all. That $#@%ing Loki tard.”
  • Fleet member: “He’s gone.”

So, literally within minutes of a complaint petition being filed CCP jumped into system and instantly erased our beautiful collection of strategically placed jet-cans. No explanation, no nothing.

My main concern with this is the seemingly inconsistent application and action by CCP. In another incident I complained about dying to a similar setup (hundreds of T1 drones spiking a bubble that I cloaky warped into) and CCP declined to take any action, explaining that it was only a problem if it lagged or was intended to lag the system.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Much better off doing this with scanner probes, no 2m delay between each jet.
