I would also like to ask your opinion of CCPs promotion of the CSM elections so far. Also how would you respond to the fact that this is so far the most boring CSM election I have seen so far, I mean just look at Jita park, last year this place was flying along and now it is almost as popular as it is for the rest of the year.

GD is as boring as hell for the election as well. The Voting threads are needing to be beaten to life all the time.

Part of the reason they're so "boring" is that so many of the candidates are strongly in agreement about some of the biggest issues. Go try and find a candidate who doesn't believe that 0.0 badly needs work, that the sov system urgently needs replacing, that it should be based on activity not structures, that the moon goo situation needs reforming and alliances should have bottom up income. We're all pretty much on the same page here; what we're competing on is who will be the best advocate and the most effective communicator.

Mudslinging and bitchposting aren't a good way to convince people of this. Sorry that this election isn't delivering your entertainment fix.

Boring people to death is hardly going to get more people to vote either.

Yes sov needs fixing but do you all agree how?

Anytime Lol

As I have said I have nothing against you, and you have some great ideas sometimes, it is just the bad ideas I don't like.

I'm not a political wizard but I think one change of the new system is that as far as strategy goes, there is little reason for a candidate to go negative. For example Trebor and Mal don't have to fight over votes, they can just encourage their own voters to put eachother somewhere on a ballet. Essentially they are no longer in competition because no one has to pick one or the other. Voters can vote for both, just like I did.

Given that, it makes a lot more sense for the two of them to get along and have their supporters vote for eachother.

Of course, I think Mal has a good point too that the biggest issues with EvE right now are fairly obvious.

Yes they are very obvious but it does seem hard to choose someone on say Sov fixes if all of the Null candidates have similar positions.

tbh externally this is one hell of a boring election.

With out even the voting figures, it is honestly the dullest CSM election I have ever seen.

Not necessarily. The STV system makes it easier to collaborate, but it by no means takes competitive campaigning out. For example, candidates definitely compete to be ranked #1 on peoples ballots, as this gives them safety from elimination in the earlier rounds when votes have not yet transferred to them from other eliminations or qualifications. In my simulations, a lot of candidates got eliminated before they could receive votes from other similar candidates eliminations and qualifications. Should these candidates had acquired more ballots ranking them as #1, they would have been able to stave off elimination until they received the much needed transfer votes to pull them up.

Similar candidates are still fighting to be put higher on the ballot than their counter-part. In case both can't make it in, the weaker one will get eliminated and their votes will go to the stronger one. That presents a good reason to "go negative" strategically, if you can do it without being removed from your counter-parts supporters ballot while still being put higher on it.

Of course, the best reason to "go negative" is in the non-strategic interest of the community when one candidate has ideas that are not representative of the playerbase.

My biggest one is, I was born in the country were the Wright STV was thought up, and I can tell you that yes the order matters, it matters to the point that come elections not only are politicians slagging the other party off, they make a huge amount of noise about some issue just to be seen.

I really hope you don't get into this CSM. Trammel was a catastrophe and killed UO, i'm not interested in having that experience again.

Trebor Woodhead, I have respect for your work on the CSM, and you deserve to get re-elected, but when it comes to RP related stuff/perspective, I hope you'll stay silent because I seriously think that you have no clue what you are talking about, all the other candidates seem to get it better than you, if only slightly so.
So sadly, I can't give you my vote.

Every time someone brings this up I keep thinking about post 9/11 and how politicians were claiming other politicians wanted to 'surrender to terrorism.' It's the type of claim that's so hyperbolic and misguided that you can't imagine anyone would actually believe it, yet they do.

I enjoy reading Gevlon, but that condemnation might even be a better endorsement than Poetic's unhinged attacks.

But it just as easily could have been Trebor, and for the same reasons. His play style is not my play style, to be sure, and he and I don't agree on everything. But he's an experienced CSM member with great contacts into and the respect of CCP, a great writer, has relevant real world experience, has a unique perspective on the game, and can work with a wide variety of personalities. He's a great transition member between previous CSMs and this one.

And Riverini's because it is as funny as hell

Riverini wrote:

Personally, I don’t really like Trebor Daehdoow – this disdain comes mostly on our contrasting approaches. Yet, I have to admit he makes a good CSM delegate and it would server a good element to maintain continuity within the CSM8. Vote for him on the third one.

What about the others?

That’s really it. The rest of the candidates simply came out of the woodwork recently when they felt they had enough backing from their alliance buddies – where have they all been for the community during this past year? (Emphasis on the word community) I also can’t shake the feeling that a good deal of the remaining candidates are simply looking to either hook a job at CCP Games, see it as a”badge” in their chest or trying to hang out with devs for instagram’s sake. The CSM is a vocational calling driven toward the general EVE Online playerbase which is opposite to being in the CSM for the benefit of an specific alliance or powerblock or even personal gain. A lot of the realities of the CSM – as in being basically an unpaid job or being constantly scrutinised by the community – will come out sooner or later for each of these new delegates.

So After that I do have a question for Trebor, should Everyone in EvE go insane and Riverini is voted in, how do you think you would work with someone who describes everyone else who will be at that table as "simply came out of the woodwork recently when they felt they had enough backing from their alliance buddies"?

If Riverini gets elected, I'd bet that the amount of effort he puts into his website ("Hey guys I copy/pasted four devblogs and someone else's blog post, calling it a day") is indicative of things, so "working" with him won't really be an issue.

The same way that he "worked" with Darius III, no doubt.
