[CSD] An alternative and supportive idea for a "broken" democracy

Last round of the CSM election I suggested some work be put into the idea of having something supportive or alternative to the CSM. The thread and momentum died as so many things often do, the original thread.

Some CSM interest was reached, but not followed up.

Now I would like to suggest it again and with some further details and issues.

The Council of Stellar Development is basically the solution to many peoples frustration with player ideas for features and balancing. It will run undemocratic and based on participation and specialist merits.

I suggest some sort of tiered ranking to show engagement and level of participation.
Preferably this will be supported and the ranks issued in communication between current members of CSM, CCP and current CSD members.

Thus a representant for Wormhole space would run that group and have a rank that only relates to that specific area. So the rankings function mainly as an honorary and experience visualisation, than actual power.

So what would such a body do?

They would help collect and debate the many issues of EVE and thus pick up and keep control of the issues, and collect all the relevant material for specific areas. Especially focused on dissemination of the issues and bridging to the player base. Thus functioning much like a communication and research group.

Why is this relevant?

There are many arguments for something like this, but the strongest to me is that some platform based on voluntarism and participation, more then democracy and block gaming elections is good for the game. This election saw a rather low number of candidates and a lot looks like they will be unable to get a voice, regardless of their qualities and skillsets. This is a huge loss to EVE, and something like the CSD would be a place to give these talents a voice.

Also in something like CSD the time demand would be much lower, because you dont need to partake in any actual CCP controlled meetings. Thus the final "voting equivalent" would be avoided. That means a lot more loose and less time straining activity would be possible. This would especially be relevant for that huge body of EVE players that dont dedicate 20+ hours to the game as it is. It would also be a place where old members of CSM and semi retired EVE players could participate. The fact that EVE have players that still socialize and go to Fanfest even though they arent in client seem to show that EVE is now a LOT MORE then just the pew pew that takes place in Jita and Null space.

This is a concept in development, so any additions and critiques are more than welcome. There is also a channel ingame I created for this feel free to drop by :channel name CSD

So basically a self-selecting cool kids club?

Yeah, I can see how that will be useful and productive.

Disregarding the fact that it would be pretty open doors based. I see it as an improvement to letting people that would have contributed greatly get DE-SELECTED by our lovely actual-cool kids club.

I think we need something that is more permanent and supports the fact that EVE is 10 years old and could get 10 more.

There are players that have had kids, eductions, and even died while we have been spinning ships. The different phases of players life have different degrees of time to dedicate to EVE, letting go of them because they dont have the time or the null popularity is esentially a BRAINDRAIN on EVE.

Oh and what part of the original post did you not read to make you jump to a cool-kids concussion?

The only point I was trying to make is to formalize something for all the people in EVE that likes the metagame and aspects that are around all the things from bughunting, balance discussion, feature inspirational material, art work, fan art, fan fiction etc etc..

It would be helpful if there was some non internal voluntary group or organization.

Especially regarding support of their efforts. This is especially relevant for new players, that only gets to start using their real life skillsets late in the game, because they are working towards ingame goals and income, and only later do they start directing their special interests and skillsets out of the client. It would be nice if a group like this with old and more experienced and established players would involve and help support this type of new blood.

There was a 96 page pdf suggestion on ideas for PI I read recently, and there have been many of such things before. I think it would really be useful for players, csm and devs if some of these would be collected and discussed.

Dreams, Ideas and ambitions are good for the game.. Its how it grows.. This is even more true in EVE than any other game afaik, the number of devs that used to be players like the rest of us is rather big.

A thing like this would practically be a nursery for future CSM candidates, ISDs or DEVs either here or who knows in other games.. If you can survive EVE and its unique aspects for good and bad, then you can survive almost everywhere. Anywhere else will just seem a bit lackluster.
