My 10 year EVE anniversary is fast approaching. Over the last couple of years my general participation in EVE has steadily declined. Why? I'm not really sure, but I think I've discovered that I'm more of a 'social' gamer than I realized; by that I mean I would rather play with friends or others than by myself, but this is pretty much a necessity in EVE anyway. That being said, my normal 'troop' has more or less been inactive, so this is probably why I don't play much anymore.

Having been in EVE for so long, I think it's fair to say I've done pretty much everything. I started out mining, got into PvP, did some 0.0 stuff back in the day and remember shitting a brick when Lord Zap popped up in MN5N-X local where we were mining, faction warfare, incursions, wormholes, POS babysitting (eww), complexes... the list goes on. For the past 4 or 5 years I've basically been a full-time pirate with supporting characters - hauler alt, market alt, mission alt, etc. Piracy is awesome and I encourage you to extract tears at some point in your career, but it's me, myself and I...no go.

So I pose a question: what have you had the MOST fun doing in EVE? Tell me your EVE profession, a nice little anecdote, whatever. I'm just looking for something different to try, some new friends to make. It'll be interesting to see people's suggestions and stories.

Me too,

Not the bitter part, just the ho-hum, another year gone. It has changed soooo much, some good, some bad, and some is just out there. I am approaching 200mil sps, and like you, done and seen a great deal. The new stuff, is well, not interesting to me. I don't call it content so much as fluff.

So many promises in the dark.

And yes, still play, though not nearly as much as I could. I log in, and mostly play the market, make some more billions (for whatever for I dunno). I have more than I'll ever want to spend, but it does appeal to my trader roots. Eon 1-4 wrote articles on trading, have built everything imaginable. And flown everything but a Titan., not that I care to anymore, they are belly-button ships, everybody's got one.

So I'm interested too, in what the older chars are thinking about these days. Glory gone bye.? Friends? Or just one more month of spending money on something we rarely use....

i personnally like missioning. get to blow **** up, make isk, and can still have a casual conversation with your friends so long as you're not being stupid. i just really really hate the ninja looters

I read this far and expected "I'm giving my ISK away, send me any value and I'll double it, risk = isk" etc.

Give a man a match and you warm him for a day.

Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life!

I'm not a bitter vet, I have been in and out (mostly out) of Eve since...idk 4 or 5 years. One of the most interesting Eve related things that I have seen is a youtube "Lets play Eve Online" series by a character named Dr. Ogres.

The dr. Ogres character is started from scratch and vbloged. The way he talks about the character you get the feeling that the vblog is a story of who this person is and what he would do in Eve.

He mostly limits himself to Gallente ships and weapons which creates the new challenge of being competitive within those limitations.

The playstyle is very much what I think the original concept of Eve play was like; a world of open options some of which compliment one another and work well in specific circumstances. Somehow the focus on this small part of Eve that Dr. Ogres is playing in really gives that place a vibrancy that you don't get when trying to consider the whole game at once.

That would be my thought on the matter of burnout; start a new character from the ground up, and play through the small game in the begining. Set some self imposed limits on the character concept, this will force you to find creative work arounds for problems that may be easily solved when using all the tools in the toolbox. This creativity, the need to problem solve outside of your current play style may help to spark a renewed interest.

Best of luck.

Congrats, Kojee... and hope you find some fun no matter which part of the game is more your style in the future. Cheers. Blink

I often find my self in the same situation as you. When you have tried everything you want to do there really is not much left and needless to say doing the same thing day in and day out gets boring in the long run no matter how exiting/relaxing/challenging/fun it was when you started.

I often get asked "What do you do to have fun in EVE?" and if im completely honest i can only say "I haven't had "fun" in EVE for years Lol".
To be honest the main thing that keeps me in EVE is the social aspect... Being in a leadership position in a corp brings a lot of benefits (a lot of varied challenges, meeting new people on a regular basis, which can be both good and bad). But of course it has its bad sides with enough drama to make even the most sane person want to scream and yell and kick everyone out of the corp and just stay solo instead of having to deal with "other people" Blink
But it feels nice to know that i am a part of something "bigger" then my self, and knowing that people (to some extent) respect my opinion and want to work together as a group to ensure a good environment for the group as a whole, and if i did not have that i don't think i would still be playing EVE.

So i agree with Celebro... If you have no done this in the past, and you feel up for the time and dedication it demands from you, start a corp and see where it takes you. With your wide range of experience and skills you will have a more realistic idea of what you can and cant do, and can set clear definite plans on how to archive what you as a corp want to do, and how to make those plans happen.

Good luck and gratulations on 10 years! Big smile

I have found that if I am logging in- its because my corp/alliance is doing something or the smaller group of players within that I hang with (my squad).

On its own- EVE is a very boring game, its up to players themselves to take the existing systems and entertain themselves. That being said: I dont know how on earth anyone plays this game solo.

The thing I enjoyed the most about eve, is meeting with girls who play, and making unwanted sexual advances towards them, which may or may not have resulted in fleeing multiple countries to avoid jail time.

I'd go with this, I'm not a bitter vet (yet) but you may find passing on your knowledge and expertise to newbies very satisfying, and their enthusiasm might reinvigorate yours.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Ever been part of a revolutionary Highsec regime?

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com

This.

Maybe write an autobiography or share some stories for this?

Anyway, Gratz to you older Eve Players for staying with the game. You're definitely an inspiration.

I think the rivalries I've had have been the most fun. Then again, I just came back from a break. If you aren't playing, go ahead and take one. You can try star wars or trek for free and a few months of either will have you missing EVE.

I play for friends. Even when we are scattered across different games and corps we are all still on Vent.

Having gotten back I've been enjoying faction war, running around in 0.0 alone, and generally reconnecting with people I haven't seen in a while.

This is the only online community, I'm a member of, where you can leave for a year or two and come back to see people you know.
