The prices of electronics go down.

Aside from perhaps RAM and its scarcity. Expensive early when very new, dropping in price and then rising much later before its an antique, but by no means ancient. Particularly older laptops that may use manufacturer specific ram. Or motherboards that will only accept very specific brands / qualities of ECC ram.

That happens when components aren't being manufactured anymore. It's not exclusive to electronics, it's applicable to every sort of replacement part for manufactured goods.

Oh my.

I'll guess they'll have to port DUST to PC to keep it alive. Cool

This might be true if you assume all PS3 owners are dumb enough to throw away their PS3s and buy PS4s to run a PS4 port of a PS3 quality game that already exists on their PS3.

This. Also if the PS4 is going to be like the 'always-on-internet' of the new xbox, sure as hell not in a hurry to get it.

PS who can remember the price the PS3 launched at? Google tells me $599. If we assume inflation at 4% for 6 years since, that equates to $750 today.
It launched at $499 for the basic model, and $599 for the advanced model which actually just had more memory, and nothing else really.

The biggest difference is that the $499 version had a 20GB HDD with no wifi support. The $599 version had a 60GB HDD and Wifi support. Both have the ability to play PS2 games.

The Japanese and US (NTSC) had some of the PS2 hardware on board (CPU and GPU) while the EU (PAL)version used to emulate the PS2 CPU using the CELL CPU and having a seperate Ps2 GPU on board to make it a sort of frankenmonster hardware/software emulation combo.
The backwards compatibility was scrapped in third generation consoles and already diminished in second generation console due to the werid combo of software and hardware emulation.

The exclusivity of Dust is with Sony not just the PS3. With it being a online title it can easily be ported for either the PS3 or PS4, as I would hope CCP would be made aware of the differences and can adapt accordingly.

As much as I dislike Dust for other reasons, the hype of PS4 being the doom of Dust is just idiotic speculation.

The reason for al the doom and gloom talk is because the game is coming out on a console only while the entire demographic is playing eve-online on a pc. Even if the game is average Eve players would be so much more interested in it then any console player that hardly knows or appreciates the universe and the effect it has on eve. Eve players also dislike the game purely because the game is not released on the PC and rightfully so.

That and looks looks about a hundred times worse then that first PC footage we saw so in all the console version only has hurt the game more then it did any good.

The even bigger question is, is there an exclusivity agreement?

Yes, in fact, there is. Xbox reqires Xbox Live on top of everything else, which turns a lot of control of DUST from CCP over to Microsoft. Which ranks on the disgust-o-meter right below having anything to do with EA. Which is why CCP went with PS3 only. It's not that they wanted to be exclusive, it was just that working with Microsoft blows.

Yes, but that's my point: there's a difference between only releasing on one platform and having an exclusivity agreement.

Just because MS didn't want to allow connections outside of XBL doesn't mean that CCP made an exclusive deal with Sony.

This is true. It's not that they signed a document (did they?) but the end effect is the same.

From what we have heard, it sounds like they did sign a document.

PS3 is a console whose generation is ending, to be replaced by the PS4. Dust is still very new, and if it wants any hope of success, it'd have to be ported to the PS4. The PS4 having such a stupidly high launch price (in combination with the probability that Planetside 2 will also be on PS4) is Bad News Bears for Dust. If it's true, of course.

sorry to tell you but dust is going to be on the PS3 and come PREINSTALLED on ALL PS4s

Yeah, I am gonna call it for sensationalistic BS in order to attract traffic until I see a legitimate source. At this point in time, I highly doubt Sony is going to announce anything more about the PS4 until E3 and Microsoft has lifted the veil on the next Xbox.

Eight or nine hundred dollars for a game console unit? Was this article an April Fool's joke posted a day late by accident? It sounds insane based on the last gen console philosophy where both Sony and MS were taking loses on the hardware while trying to get the price down to encourage people to buy one of their units for every household. They thought the real money was in game sales. That idea is half the reason the new always on DRM is coming along with this new generation, killing game rentals and used game sales, to ensure they get more profit out of the retail game sales. The average household can't afford one of these units where they could buy the games.

Are they giving up on putting a unit in every house to make money off the game sales mostly while thinking their DRM will secure enough extra profit to cover the coming drop in real sales? It sounds nuts. I won't buy one at that price and will stick with my PC. Might even buy a STEAMbox instead...
