Solo Frigate - Defensive ECM Drones

I have just started this toon who will be focusing on solo gallente frigates (initially at least). Im planning on solo roaming in low and 00. Pirating. I have no experience with using drones , or blasters for that matter, but have a fair bit of Minnie frigate experience in FW.

I was wondering how effective carrying an ECM drone would be, when using a short range blaster boat, as a lockbreaker against the usual kiting suspects, linked damp/TD Condors, Hookbills etc.

Ideally I would just carry one. Gimp my gank too much?

Will depend on the targets fit a lot.
A proper kiting hookbill won't care about your drones - won't matter what they are.
They will simply out run the drones while orbiting you.

I prefer damage drones over ecm. They have saved my ass more often then ecm drones have.

Against T1 frigs you will have about 10% chance of jam, against T2 frigs it can be as low as 5%. You have to decide if you want to roll the dice or you want to have another ~15 DPS.
