I have the RT, it's a nice tablet for surfing, email, and other basic stuff. However, WinRT will not let you run .exe files, only apps you download from their store.

The Surface Pro is the full version of windows 8 (iirc) and will let you run .exe files.

The Pro has been out for a few months, and from the reviews I have read, is better in every way to the RT by virtue of actually being able to run windows programs (RT has an ARM processor so it only runs MS Store apps, while Pro has a proper x86 like what's in laptops and desktop PCs)

There's a few other Win 8 tablets as well from other manufacturers.

Honestly I wonder why people wanna play games like Eve on a device like that. Mobility? Is the appeal to be able to play wherever you want?

You get mobility with a normal laptop as well. But playing on a tablet is (at least for me)

a) new and shiny! So it must be cool!!! ;)
b) kinda like the controls depicted in Star Trek: TNG, so again: Cool!

I've run Eve on my Surface Pro and I have to say it really is not that great of an experience. It can handle Eve at about medium settings, but the main problem is Eve's UI. Eve is meant to be run using a mouse and keyboard. Using strictly touch or touch + type keyboard leaves much to be desired. For now, if I need to play Eve on my Surface Pro, I just use a bluetooth mouse and the keyboard.

this isn't dickery from microsoft - it's technically impossible because EXE files are made for x86 processors - winRT runs on ARM not x86.

eve isn't an ARM program

For me its the ability to jump in game to switch research jobs, update prices, evemail and chat, set up contracts and move the odd ship here and there while I am at work or when my wife wants to use the computer for something.

I have been looking at tablets over laptops because they are smaller and more portable, I like the form factor. I have a surface RT now and it is a nice little machine for school and such (full ms office + skydrive sync ftw) but not having the ability to run x86 software or install drivers (stupid usb -> serial converters need drivers grrr) is annoying.

That's good to know. I wasn't really sure as to why, just that you couldn't.

Question for the people who've tried it on their Surface Pro: Does using touch as a left click work for you?

For me clicks only register on a second touch .. or more precisely it seems like the first touch moves the pointer and the second performs the click (while again moving the pointer). That only happens for touch, while using the pen seems to work fine. And it's annoying! -.- Especially since it also happens in a few other games (like Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012) that might be fun to play with touch.

Overall the hybrid nature of the Surface Pro is great, but I guess it really depends on how it's used.
