"The Sandbox"

The most used argument in the whole of EVE. Can justify any argument, any engagement, pretty much anything going on in game.

Yet the sandbox is not quite so sandy after all. Go figureCool

Are you trying to "themepark" my use of the word "sandbox"? That goes against the sandbox, man.

I like how Psychotic Monk puts it that the competitive aspect of EVE is more attractive than the sand box per se.

It's the rampant competition that allows us to do what we want, and to the limit of our abilities, make others do what we want.

Also, I need more carebears to do my survey on high-sec aggression in their high-sec sandbox: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1dLcM27c_qDyOIxFgE4Zan_T8j_eZDDeCUAEL4lwXGC8/viewform

Remember that whenever you have a bad day in EVE, the correct reponse is "Thank you CCP, may I please have another?"

Just speaking for myself I enjoy the experiment of Eve much more than any competition. Trying different things out and exploring the mechanics. If I were to play Eve from a competitive standpoint then it would not be any where near as interesting as I avoid situations that may result in loss and pursue only those that may result in gain.

Some of the most interesting engagements that I have had in Eve were the result of "poor" play and bad ideas, the fact that the world is open enough to try different things is also part of what makes it interesting and fun. You need both the ability to compete with other players and to measure your ideas against other gamers and the open concept of the sandbox that allows for a great variety of tactics and strategy.

Eliminate alts (would never happen, they'd drown from tears) and second accounts (not possible, even if they wanted to) and you would have more of a sandbox. Sandbox just isn't the right term.

We get to choose what we call the sandbox, its part of the sandbox.

BoBwins Law: As a discussion/war between two large nullsec entities grows longer, the probability of one comparing the other to BoB aproaches near certainty.

Those standing in the middle of the sandbox are wrapped in bubble-wrap by mommy, who kicks anyone in the nuts who touches them

Those standing outside the middle get their wrists gently slapped, for poking others in the eye.

Those standing at the outer edges eat each other.

Not so much a sandbox but three shards in reality, but you can jump between them based on your daily desire to be bubble wrapped, poked in the eye, or eaten alive.

…and how does that make it a not-sandbox?

Quote:

…except, of course, that there is deep integration between the three that makes one happens in one have effects on what happens in the other, and that “shard” is pretty much exactly the wrong word to describe this kind of behaviour.

I always explain everything in EVE with "Nanites!"

Sandbox! Might be better.

Since anybody can say it's a sandbox, because it's a sandbox, it's therefore not a sandbox, so I'm not going to say it's a sandbox.

technically super mario brothers was a sandbox too. you can do what you like; stand still, jump on the same spot, run forwards and backwards, etc. no one forcing you to finish the level.

Multi-sandboxing is still sandbox.

Your argument lacks peanut butter.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.
