Beer thread!

Guinness is good.
Along that line but a tad bit lighter, Boddingtons has to be one of my favorites.

I like a Dog Fish Head (their 90minute IPA is bangarang)
Southern Tier IPA is great (and they make a 2x IPA)

In a can? You bet. I'll take a Yuengling.

Bitburger aint too bad I suppose. B.B. Burgerbrau surprised me, I thought a very good taste though my friend and beer disty owner did not agree with me.

There is a local brew, EBC (Ellicotville Brewing Co) that make a bunch of stuff, their apricot and blueberry is badass (never thought i'd like a fruity beer but they do it right)

I think I saw someone mention Great Lakes. From the same area you can buy from Erie Brewing Company (watch out for that railbender! It's a doozy!" Both these companies make good stuff.

Sam Adams? meh, I suppose. I like their Noble Pils A LOT, but it's hard to get, uber seasonal. I do like their Winter and their Summer, but the Octoberfest and Boston Lager don't ring my bell like it does for most (I'll still drink it mind you, don't get me wrong)

Founders makes decent stuff if you can buy it where you are.

Down the road a ways we have the Bullfrog Brewery, they make something called "Old Toad" that will have you hailing a cab and getting the car in the morning.

Hometown favorite (Harrisburg) is Troegs, these guys have taken off in the last 10 years and you can find this stuff all over the place. It's all good (but heavy)

I really could go on for a couple hours. I love beer. More middle of the road but still good? Hogarden is so-so, there are probably dozens I'm forgetting that I'd like to mention.

To each their own... I think I have a good taste for beer but I'll also drink **** ppl will denounce. Heineken if I'm in a bar with NO selection, or Corona/Dos Equis (those two preferably with enough lemon to ward off scurvy, just out of habit). We make a mix called skippy every summer when we hold these ginormous camping parties (10gallon drum filled with Natural Ice, Vodka and Lemonade powder mix), yeah, criticize me if you will but imagine this guy yelling back at you in response.

I gotta go, stuff to do, beer to drink. Choose, but choose wisely, for while the right beer will give you everlasting pleasure... the wrong beer will give you rot gut and the *****

.... but before then you'll get a good deal of pleasure so, you know what? Forget what I just said.

- Get a beer,
- drink it,
- if you don't like it drink it until you do
- buy something different next time.

Make your own list. We all do at some point, and that's half the fun of beer. The personal discovery (well, the intoxication is nice too)

Stay thirsty my friends.

Lol Dutch beer is water with coloring? True about Bavaria and Heineken but most beers there are very bitter.

Best beer is Grolsch... and they got the 'brace' bottle!

In light of Kitty McKitty's thread about Icelandic Beer and space beer (Linky), I think it would be interesting to get everyone's opinion on their favorite beers. Flying drunk (and FCing drunk) is a well-honored past time in EVE, and it is always good to have your eyes opened to new and tasty beers.

Here are a few of my favorites (with links!)

Kona Brewery Redman Red Ale (In the draft-only section)
Kona Brewery Longboard Island Lager (much more widely available)
St Arnold Brewery Oktoberfest (Local Houston, TX brewery)
Shiner Bock (Also widely available)

Oh... and find me a *good* beer I can get locally, and I'll send you 15M ISK. (I tend to like ales that are more malty than hoppy, and aren't very bitter)

British beer ...not really beer is it

Sure, buddy. Whatever you say Lol

Sam Smiths Lager: This is straight up the best lager I have ever tasted. This is what other lagers wish they were, but secretly know that they never will be.

Black Sheep Riggwelter: My favourite strong bitter. Warning: this stuff is insidious. It doesn't have that treacley heaviness that most strong bitters have, it's relatively light and hoppy, so you can easily put down a few pints of this thinking it's session bitter. Then there's a blur. Then you find you're halfway up the fell, on a scree slope, at midnight, in the rain, trying to remember what precisely was so awesome about going climbing in the dark...

Tim Taylors Golden Best: a straight up session beer with a bit more hop than ordinary bests usually have.

To name but one example each from 3 of my favorite breweries.

Black Butte Porter, Deschutes Brewery Portland and Bend, OR
Bitches Brew, Dogfish Head Brewery Milton Head, DE (just to prove I am not biased to the West of the US....which I am)

Just a few examples of the excellent beers currently being brewed here in the US.

I was in a free house pub (ie: they can stock whatever they like, not being tied to a brewery) a few years ago, and they had an IPA that was made in, of all places, Pheonix. For some reason I am unable to account for, my memory of the evening is a little fuzzy and I have never been able to remember the name of it. But God, it was good.

I have known you since 1997, and how many times have I invited you to come to the beautiful NW US for a tour of our local beers?

I lost count too, move your limey buttocks. Well, wait until I am employed again.

P.S. The regional chain of Brewpubs called Rogue had an excellent double strength IPA called I think XXX IPA. The one I have tried most recently was called Red Chair NWPA brewed by Deschutes Brewery in Oregon. This is the same Brewery that makes one of my favorites, Black Butte Porter.

There is another small brewery in Snoqualmie, WA called Snoqualmie Falls Brewery and they make a line of excellent beers. Also, the town where the TV series Northern Exposure was filmed has some excellent small breweries as well. Can't swing a dead cat up here in the NW without finding a small brewery or brewpub that has something worth your beer swilling while.

1. Leffe Blonde although a bit sweet is great superchilled on draught. The bottled versions are hit and miss, mainly because they use far too much sugar in the larger corked bottles. The tidgy little bottles you get in a 4 pack are great straight from the freezer but cost way too much and are far too sweet (they make you sick if you drink a liter of the stuff) for most.

2. Fürstenberg is a wonderful cheap German brown bottle lager. Its £1.45 for 500ml in morrisons (Uk)

3. Budweiser Budvar is a fantastic and cheap slightly spiced lager. The Saaz Aroma hops really hit the spot.

4. Peroni Nastro Azzurro is not so cheap but again a fantastic light gassy lager. Not keen on the draught version but the bottled stuff slides down nice n easy. Good with food!

5. Disgusting though it is, I also really like San Miguel. As long as its ******* cold. But that's just me .. and it is widely acknowledged as chemical **** by the great and the good.

Mostly American beers here...

Favorite at the moment is Alaskan Amber Alt.

If you happen to live near a good one, Gordon Biersch makes some good German style beers. (Bottled is good too, but they contract the recipes out to another company.) My uncle actually brews for the San Diego restaurant and is damn good, IMO.

North Coast makes some good beers as well, though fairly expensive.

Was recently turned on to Xingu. Possibly contender for next favorite.

any beer from St feullien brewery in belgium is incredibly good (especially their award winning Saison!)
Killkenny and guinness is pretty damned good as well.
if you want a nice light beer, then try out San miguel, it's pretty decent.
