CCP are missile launcher turrets gone or are they still in developement?

Hi,

i know that after the great feedback of the new turret models, CCP said that they will make missile launcher turrets as well but that it needs more work than the turrets. So far i havent heard a word about that for a long time. So my question is:
will they be in the winter expansion?

Has CCP started to work on them, or what is the status of this great feature that would make a lot of people very happy.
Just think how new models in combination with missile salvos would look (also the explosion-fix that missiles would explode at the ship hull and not inside of the center).
For me that would be one of the biggest improvementgs of the expansion.

Also what about the new engine trails? Will they come or not?

They arent going to be in the winter expansion.

In a way, yes. They have started work on them. This was confirmed when they released a video devblog highlighting the change to the raven BS and confirmed (by Basement Ben)

CCP needs to update the ship models so that they will have hard points for the missile launchers and remove the current built-in missile launchers from existing models. (I.E. Drake)

Once they have have updated all the models, they will start work on the missile launchers themselves I'm sure. Art department has " A TON" of work to do... Makes me wonder what they have been doing all this time!?!

Way i see it, gonna be very difficult to attach it to some ships.

#1 Is just making all the model launcher nodes to be put to the ship. They aren't like turrets that will revolve, swivel, and constantly be pointed at other targets like the turrets always have. We saw how long it took for them to have recoils :P


#2 They'd have to re-do the art to almost all of the missile ships and others! That use missiles you know, and who knows how much space these launchers would take. They've always been launched from some center axis then you see a flash of light, making me think they were launched in a fashion similar to that of Javelin Missiles.



This new art releasing of a raven is a bit unprecedented, but anticipatable after the re-do of the scorpion, for what purpose other then being the ugliest ship in the game. I wouldn't expect visible launchers until sometime after DUST.

Keep in mind they wouldn't have to be box launchers. Could be silos recessed into the ship's structure on larger vessels, pretty simple as far as modelling goes. Look at how a missile submarine launches its payload.

People zoom in close enough to see that much detail? Then why is almost every video about swarms of brackets? Straight

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

For me the new missile turrets also should have high priority to implement. The current animation of shooting missiles is so ugly it could turn off new players.

Have to admit that I'm liking how quick dev's and gm's are replying to questions asked on the forums lately.

They said they had issues.

Issue number 1

Missile Model spawn behavior. currently it spawn from center of the ships sphere, this is okay because if it where to spawn at the edge of the sphere youd get self bumpage would would be cool for recoil effect but we're talkinga multi-tonn warship launching something that small so it be even more unrelastic

issue 2

animation from launchers and how it woul be treated in seperated and combined fire

issue 3

some ships have misisle launchers preinstalled into the model they will have to be redesigned to have them removed.

I watched closely this time and nothing was said about missiles. Can you quote Basement's post?

Nothing. Or it's just two guys. Just to clarify, they added hardpoints for every high slot on every ship when to created the tractor beam and salvager turrets. Before then there was no place to stick 8 salvagers on a drake.

Not if the model icons are anything to go by. Keep in mind the short range missiles are supposedly unguided according to lore, so they would have to be aimed.

Actually a friend of mine who plays EVE for only a couple of month just told that. He said it really is a deal breaker for him to see the missiles firing in one single blob from all the missile launcher of his drake. It really looks ugly and could be "easily" solved if they just fire in a row like the new turrets do. That is all for now.

It was explained why no launchers were done in the dev blog for turrets.
I do hope they get round to it though, as I agree, it really is lacking at the moment.
