Caldari Prime now a DMZ

How unfortunate Kaalakiota and Lai Dai have chosen to be on the wrong side of history, it appears at least for now the CEP and the Federal Senate have seen that escalation or prolonging of the current conflict will lead only to perpetual conflict where our soldiers stand vigil over ruins.

And here the cynic in me thought such would be the case, what with the intractability of past negotiations. How amusing to be pleasantly surprised by the leadership of the State and the Federation.

I know, right? One might even hope that now that we seem to be moving towards a permanent solution to the matter of Caldari Prime, our two nations might realise there's no compelling reason to continue a border war.

So apparently, Mordu's Legion will be responsible for enforcing the DMZ. I can't say I'm entirely happy with that decision, but on reflection I don't think there's very many organisations out there that would be more suited to such a task.

I think you might be right. Not many other groups out there that would have enough resources to keep the peace there that could be trusted. Some might say that CONCORD should enforce the DMZ, but I think it's a little out of their mandate.

COCORD seems to like overstepping the bounds of their mandate at times. I can't say I have that much faith in them or their supposed neutrality these days, and their ability to keep the peace is less than stellar. Mordu's legion seems to be an interesting choice, though I guess it would have been too much to ask for the Watch or the Peace and Order Unit to take up security work.

Don't go there, we all know where this will lead.

I see what you did there, Sak, and my face has pressed charges against my desk for assault and battery.

While the Legion is not necessarily the favorite choice, Grideris does bring a rather good point; this is likely a matter outside of CONCORD's mandate, so those calling for CONCORD to deal with it would probably find their time better used on something else.

The ceremony marking my graduation from the Federal Navy Academy's capsule training program was the day before the events that allowed the Shiigeru to enter orbit over Caldari Prime, and started this proxy war. It's been almost five years since then, and it is good to finally see some progress being made towards resolving things, despite the enormous costs in human life that it took to get to this point.

As has probably been made clear through other channels, all of the organizations working to resolve this in a peaceful manner have my full support.

Federation Navy releases details about the offensive and the aftermath, citizens react.

The overall response from Federation citizens has been positive to the proposal for a DMZ over Caldari Prime and the Federation Navy expresses dismay at the titan crashing into the planet as it was not part of the original operational plan.

It seems both nations are set toward finally resolving this matter. Thankfully.

Grideris - overstepping mandates should be something you're privy with. You should take some of your own medicine.

Personally I welcome the decision of our dear leaders to treat our homeworld as a DMZ and hope that State citizens will have no problems moving freely between the cradle of our civilization and the rest of the State territories. Whether or not this solution will become permanent is up to all of us, now.

Officially, the Pyre Falcon Defence Combine supports the decisions of the CEP in domestic questions, as proven by its intervention yesterday against Templis Dragonaur forces in Yashunen who were disrupting an aid convoy to Caldari Prime.
Furthermore the STPRO contract will still be upheld to its full extend as the border war is continueing.

Ruthlessness is the kindness of the wise.

I was referring to their last public sparring match. Neither came out of it smelling of roses.

Not to question their sincerity Mr Raithe, but it would hardly be politically prudent to say anything contrary.

Having said that, It does appear at a casual glance that this agreement is sincere, at least from what information is publically available. The employment of Mordus Legion as peacekeepers especially is a move I can support.

Sigh.

Of course, because it can't possibly be true that the Federation isn't actually out to kill millions of innocent people. Can we at least try not to assume the worst in each other, for once?

I think the relevant statement would be to never assume malice to what can be attributed to incompetence, though I admit, I would be willing to believe both regarding the actions of Federal forces.

So now that there's at least a negotiated solution and a recognition of the special status of Caldari Prime by the Federation, why all the continued snide remarks and subtle xenophobia on the part of you Caldari partisans? It's not like your hands are totally clean in all this either. How about putting the past aside and giving this new settlement a chance without the name calling and hatred? Are you so conditioned to hate that you know no other way?

I'm so glad someone came in to put a stop to these contentious comments. By making a contentious comment.

I am very pleased that the ceasefire will allow all parties to rebuild and grow, and perhaps for a more durable peace to be constructed. It is unsurprising that the Federal Senate would agree to this ceasefire - the skies around the homeworld remain theirs, and this signing removes Caldari control of the surface as well, instead handing its security to a foreign party. I can characterize this as nothing but a complete surrender of the homeworld, and victory for the Federation. I cannot think our ancestors would be proud of us, but necessities must rule in troubled times.

This was likely the best solution we could have hoped for; while I am wary of withdrawing our forces from the planet, Mordu's Legion should be more than capable of maintaining the peace for now, and I can understand Federation hesitance to allow Caldari forces so close to their homeworld. I am curious if corporate security forces for civilian and corporate security will be allowed, as opposed to military units; I certainly hope so.

I am also pleased to see the CEP finally taking some responsibility again; it is imperative that they act to disband the CPD and any presumed authority relating to the "Executor," so that there is no doubt about the Navy's chain of command, and that the Tribunal immediately act to arrest any and all people involved in attacks on corporate assets by the CPD and their associates -- it is shocking to me to see a terrorist group acting openly in the service of the CPD. Even I doubted they would be so brazen, but I suppose desperation has forced Heth's hand.

To the board of the Kaalakiota Corporation...may I humbly suggest that you reevaluate the leadership of your corporation and consider that perhaps it is time for a change.
