Bot hunting: A series of polite questions

I'd like to get into bot hunting, but I don't know how on earth are you supposed to tell the difference between, say, a Retriever that's AFK-mining and a Retriever piloted by a bot.
Are there any features that give away a bot away, such as overly repeated behaviour?
Is there any way to test suspicious pilots to see if they are bots?
And, of course, which areas of the universe are the ones most prone to botting?

Here is how you tell the difference.... pop it and if the pod keeps going back and forth you have successfully found a bot.

Get tears then you found a player.

Most common areas for botting are nullsec... botting ratters.

Highsec generally within a few jumps of a trade hub.

You also have your Level 4 mission hubs.... mission bots.

List goes on.

Kill them all and let the CCP Security Team sort them out.Big smile

If you are looking for a real criteria, check their bio to see if they have purchased a mining permit from James 315.

That's a pretty good tip! While not all code-violators are bots, no botter is allowed to carry a New Order mining permit. So, if you find a permit holder he is definitely not a bot.

Umm... not true... shot many bots with so called permits... in fact I am starting to think you have something against players and allow the bots to do there thing. Alts?

You could also just ask them in local, "Hey, xxx, are you a bot?" If they don't deny it within 5 seconds or so,then they are either a bot, afk, or ignoring you. All of the above are excellent reasons for ganking them.

You've shot many a bot with a permit?, or you've shot many a bot with a bio that claims they have a permit? unless you have access to the list of permit holders you can't say for sure. Your best bet, evemail someone from the New Order, they'll be able to tell you either way, and any bots will die some more, they don't like people using them as cover for botting.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I'm not less advanced. I'm just lazy.

Shame CCP has protected bots by giving them massive tanks. Bots pay subs jsut as players do, ccp would prefer you left them alone.

Could Eve mail me and I'll check. I have yet to find a permit holding bot... I do not believe they exist. Perhaps a reward could be in order to the one who finds a bot who has a permit (bio and on spreadsheet) and that character is banned.

Convo and duel request them, if they both auto-deny they are highly likely to be a bot.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

I turn off invites and duels when I solo hunt as I don't need the distraction. No need to worry about me when I warp next to you. I am just a bot Pirate

When i first played eve a long time ago bot huntting was great sport.

No buying plex for isk

So

Bots everywhere.

And...at some point they decided that drone plexes in low sec were best for farming. Holding 3 apocs hostage in a jaguar....now those were the days
