Threatening to gank in high sec for ransoms....... does it work?

Have you ever gone to high sec with a gang, let's say 0.5 for the better (longer) concord response time. Then for example warped in and locked a miner, and threatened to gank them? Does ransoming somebody in high sec work for you? This guy on local was doing it with a group. He was laughing about it. The group just locks them and tells them not to move their ships or they get ganked. If he has the firepower to back it up they actually do pay him something sometimes!

No sec status loss and people pay up. Seems strange, I suppose it can work sometimes??

Sausages anyone??

I doubt it would work very often. But who knows?

Whenever we run our ICE jihad ops, miners can pay me 50MIL protection fee and I will make sure their precius mac is not blown up. Serous business bro.

This service is always advertised in local after each gank, I did receive several payments already.

I generally brew-up a Hulk FIRST. So they know I'm serious.

Then I address book them.

I send an EVE mail, requesting that they pay me in order for me not to hunt them down and gank them again in the future.

Some of them pay, some of them stop using Hulks or quit the game, some of them lose more Hulks. Either way, its fun.

Locator agents + Tempests make it a snap. I usually set the ransom around the cost of the Hulk I guarantee they will be losing in the future if they don't pay up.

I suppose if they can see you have the firepower to back it up they will indeed pay. Something to think about for the future I suppose.

Too much effort IMHO. I like a blind ganks, roll in to system and unleash carnage on all miners that did not GTFO, wait out GCC and repeat the process every 15 minutes. You'd be surprised how many miners/bots are there shooting roids among the wreks of their fellow miners.

Don't concord insta kill you if you go back as they tend to stay in the belt that just got ganked? Do you get a chance to fully gank them before being torn to shreds?

I am intrigued by your use of locator agents

what you do is you undock in a noob ship and aggress concord. the concord in the belt will then warp to you, so you get another shot.

In Highsec, it's called Protection Money, not a ransom Pirate

Seen several posts in our internal boards where miners do pay up and in some cases will keep pauyying to not get blown up.

Good hunting!

Concord is a joke, 5 to 6 thrashers can alpha a mackinaw or hulk in 0.9 with concord on the grid. In 0.5 we have killed miners with as few as 4 thrashers with time to spare to pod them.

This is spot on. I've been slightly busy doing just this thing in October (http://eve-kill.net/?a=pilot_detail&view=kills&plt_id=368430&m=10&y=2011), and popping the first hulk or mackinaw is pretty key to let them know you are serious.

After that you get a couple outcomes:
1) They leave. This is the most common response, especially to Gallente Ice Interdiction. They leave Gallente space, go where you are not. This is the most rational approach.

2) They flip out. They curse you, your mother, your family, your alliance and generally pitch a temper tantrum right there in local for everyone to see. If you are really lucky, they make a threat against you IRL, or call you a racial slur. These are extra special because then you report them and that kind of behavior typically results in a ban. This is actually my "most preferred" outcome because the rage is truly hilarious to behold.

3) They pay up. Some of them even THANK you for it, or compliment you on your "ingenious business model." I don't know if it's Stockholm or just something they wish they had thought of doing first, but a few seem happy to pay. It boggles the mind.

The best part of an open ended ransom, is that after losing that first Hulk, the dedicated miner target can NEVER again relax.

Miners want to just AFK or semi-AFK mine, set the strips, watch TV.

- If they are alert, they can avoid a repeat gank by watching out for me in local. But its hard to remain that vigilant forever.
- Or they can tank up, which either requires I bring a friend - or they settle for less efficient mining. I've seen victims actually fit their Hulk with only 2x Strips because they wanted the grid for more tank. Roll
Rule #1 about Hulks - there is ALWAYS a resist hole - and 1400MM Arty is the best way to drive a bus right through it.

Either way, miners hate doing these things, and there is no expiry on 'gank' wardecs vs individuals. I might leave someone alone for a few days or a few weeks, or even a few months, then pay them a visit.

Last, I tend to honor this type of ransom. Its not strictly necessary - but hell, if a miner pays 200M to be left alone, its a small sacrifice to chase others. There are plenty of other Hulks in the sea, after all.
