April 1st - Opening Day - What EVE is missing is Sports!

Hi guys!

For many Americans (I am European) April 1st seems to hold a quasi-religious quality - as it's Opening Day for the new Baseball season.

Now EVE strives to be a Sandbox simulating a galaxy far, far away (or something like that). What it is missing for even more immersion is ... Sports!

My question here is: Who'd be interested in changing that and adding a consistent Baseball Simulation (it's the only one where I know a software that can do this in a customized way that fits the EVE universe) to the universe?

There would have to be ISK buy-ins, payouts according to ranking, etc.

I would volunteer to be commissioner, but I'd love to have a few guys who share the load with me - and to help build trust in the league office (we are talking a few hundred million ISK after all).

Anybody interested to discuss this or to hear more?

Wow - you mean you actually get into a jump clone and scour the galaxy? I am impressed! :D

Fantasy Baseball is something different, using results of Earth Baseball Leagues. I am talking about of sports management simulation - something that is not that far off from what Industry Captains and Trade Barons do in EVE...

Sure, not everybody would be interested, but if you look into real world media - a lot of it is Sports, and that is missing in EVE.

If nobody likes the idea, that's fine, too. But finding out about that is what the forum is about, isn't it?

why would you pick a sport like rounders O.o a sport that only a few countrys would care about anyways........

Rugby would be more fitting for the eve universe me thinks :P or cricket lol

I have a cool sport. It's a team sport.

So, you have two teams (dur) of even numbers, all flying a Noctis per person, and maybe a "goalkeeper" with ECM, and you have to target dust bunnies and tractor them out into space, while the "goalkeeper" has ECM and MWD for bumping and has to try to prevent the other team from grabbing the bunnies. Meanwhile, the dust bunnies have no idea what's going on, and think there's a massive glitch in the game.

The team who spaces the most dust bunnies wins. We can call it Dust Lobbing.

The sport is not really that important - it just happens that Out of the Park Baseball is the only really good Sports Management Simulation that I know of that you can really modify easily for a true fantasy (or sci-fi ;-)) league. And I am having fun with it, despite not being a Baseball fan at all.

If there are any comparable and equally suitable sims out there, I'd be happy to learn about them (Some Football/Soccer Managers apparently are pretty good, but afaik you can't customize them enough for suspension of disbelief: I want to believe that I have players from the several faction races from New Eden with appropriate names in my team...).

And yes, I'd love to have the same thing for 0-Grav-Ball, but that just doesn't exist ;-).

LOL. While it certainly wouldn't hurt any of us to get outside and move our bodies a bit, it's not what I am writing about. But you already knew that.

What is so abhorrent about the thought that EVE players might enjoy the idea of "regular" sports being played in the EVE universe?

I hear EA produce a bountiful selection of sports games. You can play one of those, and use your imagination to pretend you're on Caldari Prime while doing so.

Those are "game pad" games. And they are not really customizable like OOTP. Nor can they in multiplayer be played asynchronously.

Well, it looks like I'll have to look into how to show a bit better what I am talking about.
