Maybe its just me - but I think it's incredibly disturbing that so many guys have girl avatars in this universe. Its not like we spend that much time watching our own avatar to make the excuse that guys would "rather look at a girl than a guy".

Is it possible that there is some strange androgynous undertone that would provide an escape for someone to fake x-sex relationship when they may be too timid to do so outside eve?

I guess I'm just an old fashion guy.

MMORPG = Many Men Online Role-Playing Girls.

I think I have at least 5 female alts, just to have characters that look different. I have 15 characters.

There is a couple of reasons i can think about.

First one is pretty simple.
If you have ever player WOW and you used a female avatar, you could be pretty sure that people would either hit on you, or give you good deals when buying patterns or similar.
Some of the same moves into EVE where people think that if they pretend to be female they will get more attention (always amusing when a "girl" tries to invite you into a special channel just for female players when you have heard the person on voice or gotten confirmation that it is a guy Roll
PS. For the real females looking for a channel like this, there is a channel called WGOE and information about this can be found here; https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=43228

The second one.. Well im sure there are a lot of people that uses a female avatar purely because they like how the picture looks, and has no deeper feelings or emotions tied in with said character. As in..they dont think about the character as anything but...a character in a game that is not real.

Its possible there is something deeper behind it..that people pick female avatars because its easier to trust a female "face" even if the person is a male, or they simply don't know that there is a lot less female gamers in EVE then in other more fantasy based online games so most people don't take it for granted that a female avatar means someone is really a female.

For role players i can also imagion that having a female avatar can grant more "freedom" since a female (in theory) can show a lot more emotions and higher variety then a male character could (a female character can easely go from being very emotional and timid (?) to the hard core strict leader. With a male character i can see some people reacting if you did a /me sits down and cries because the world hates him! (Yep stereotyping a lot here to get the point across)
Please note i have never really known any role players (in any game) so i have no idea how this really works and just guessing.

I like the detail you put into this post, i never thought about it like that before.
I've always played male characters because my friend thinks male players as female chars is weird.
And she'd make fun of me :/
I get enough of that already XD
