Being military... here is the BLUF: I humbly request someone mail me a disk/thumb-drive with a current Eve Client (MAC) saved onto it.

Now the reason I request this...: I am currently deployed to [A Hush hush location in the world that noone knows soldiers are deployed to...NOT even the hundreds of agencies who would love to send them care packages for personal use] and finally got to a location that offers a slow internet connection. I have been trying for days to download the client, but even with a download manager, it has failed. The connection here is just too unreliable. Now if I could just get someone willing to mail me the 6.3-ish GB file I'd be set. Problem is that it requires something bigger than a DVD therefore I would need someone willing to also buy a small capacity Thumb-drive big enough for the client, trusting that I would pay them back. I have USAA banking which can do paypal payments. (If for some reason speaking of money is forbidden in forums then disregard my last statement and change it to... PLEASE, someone be kind enough to help a fellow pilot out... ). But seriously, any consideration would be appreciated. Thanks for everyone's time and hopefully I'll see y'all in deep space sometime soon. - MEEKS Out.

I understand your plight, so I'm not being harsh.

But if the connection is that unreliable, is EVE going to be playable ?

Yes. EVE uses 5 Kb/s or so at worst.

I believe so, and even if it is momentary playtime, at least I can keep up my skill training until I return to the States.

It would indeed be ideal for that at the least.

Being a PC guy I dont know anything about MACS. But I am downloading the MAC Client right now. IF I can use my PC to copy the file to a USB Drive, then great.

If this works, I will be glad to help you out for free. I'll know in less than an hour or so. IF it works, send me your mailing address to my inbox and I'll send it off on Monday if that is ok...

Your S2 & S6 must love you.

"Hey guys, I'm a US soldier in Afghanistan and I don't give a **** about security - please send me a binary that I have no means of verifying so I can install it on any camp computers I happen to come across."

I can vouch for myself. I'm cool....

Just trying to help a guy. But he could easily verify it on another PC in some Afghan Internet Bar where all the cool dudes hang out...

Being prior service myself, I have to say that the only persons I would trust most to cover you for the cost up front, would be family or guys in your unit on rear detachment. In regards to the security questions being brought up, be upfront with your chain of command, and let your unit IT guru scan it and install it for you. Good luck, and like my old CSM used to say, keep your k-pot on, stud.

EDIT: Is the group that handles IT for the military still referred to as the Legions of DoIM?

Hey Doc, thx for the help. I am on my own PC by the way, as is all my gaming and virus scans etc. And kudos to the secret agents who discovered that soldiers are in afghanistan (OPSEC), which was all i put in the original post...way to do your part to keep us safe.

You don't undock often, do you ?
And when you undock, there aren't many ships around, hu ?

An average 10-30KByte/sec, depending on the situation, is more accurate.

If you can, in theory, download the client size-wise you can ask anyone to RAR their MAC client and split-archive it to you. If one or two parts then have corruption issues you can download those parts again / use the recovery mode.

Dropbox links work OK for this. You can also use the above to have this shipped on CDs/a couple of DVDs which may give you more people willing to help.

If anyone else wants to take over feel free. I think I'm running into an issue trying to grab a MAC file on my PC. After downloading it shows up as 0 bytes, I would assume due to the incompatible file systems.

I'm not ready to give up yet though, still working on this...

A) You know that the fact you've posted from this location probably means you can be traced from IP or something?
B) South Korea?

FYI, dual layer DVD-R discs can hold 8.5GB. They've been available off the shelf since 2005 or 2006.

Not sure if you have a Blu-Ray player, but BD-R discs can be had for less than $1 when bought in a pack of 25, and can hold 25GB.

A thumb drive is pretty unnecessary.
