Early 2013 MBPr Fans 100%

I was just curious if this is normal for the fans to run at 100% while in EvE. As soon as I Tab out of eve they go back to normal.

I use smcFanControl and because of the high temperature that Eve always cause in my MBPr I have it set for Higher RPM setting, which typically means having the fan at 6200rpm all the time the client is running.

I've been testing many tools regarding Macbook fanspeed, throttling and temperatures. Nowadays I use smcFancontrol to always show me the current temperature and I use Macs Fan Control (http://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control) to throttle the fans manually.

I usually play EVE windowed and throttle my fans at 4000-4500 rpm which is a LOT more silent than >6000 rpm and the temp never rises above 87°C even in large fleet battles and running ts3 in background.

When I play EVE fullscreen I set the fanspeed to 5000-5500 rpm, temps will never go above 95°C. So in essence, playing at OVER 6000 rpm is not necessary and will in fact reduce lifespan of your fans as well as batterylife (if playing without AC).

I've had some crashes to desktop when playing fullscreen and not rising fanspeed to 5500rpm lately since 10.8.3. So test by yourself and make sure no other programs are running in background.

All said also applies to Win7 bootcamp. You can also use Macs Fan Control for windows (see link above).

Just start, a small fan-symbol will appear on your menubar and you can select the max-fanspeeds by simple selecting them.
