I like this idea.

But then again, I've been drinking and I like everything when I've been drinking.

You probably don't want to know my opinion of this idea when I'm sober. Lol

Without skills, where would be development? What would be left to achieve?
Character development is the core element of most games I ever played. It's what makes you attached to your character. And for me it's an importantant ingrediance for a good game. Without skills everyone will grind for gear. And your past successes will become meaningless. If I wanted such a game, I would still play SWTOR.

Great post. Lol
And now I'll go and get some paper towel to clean up the mess you just caused - my poor monitor. P

I'd personally quite like having perfect-Titan skills from the word "go"...

Give a man a match and you warm him for a day.

Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life!

I've always hated this newbie poison, shown in this thread, about how you need "X" SP to do anything in EVE. Most of it comes from toxic channels known as "Rookie Chat" and "Help".

I can take a day 1 character, and be roaming in lowsec in a T1 frig. Fast and cheap tackle is always useful in a roam. That same char can do some "buy low/sell high" trading runs in a hauler for ISK. Within a week, I can have a trained up gankalyst pilot, helping splut miners and AWOX corps (hey, I stick with what I know). Give me around a month or so, I can be out experiencing 0.0 in a nice little cloak ship, and driving residents there crazy.

It's true, newbies will never catch up in SP to an oldtimer...but that old-timer's Frigate 5 gives the exact same bonuses as a 2 month old's Frig 5. Set up a skill plan, specialize, and you too can fly that supership you saw the 7+ year bitterfet in.

There's more to EVE than mining and missionrunning, contrary to what you see in the help chats. Use yo brains and figgure it out.

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

The drive to 'upgrade' your character is an important part of most MMOPGs. My prediction would be that most would loose interest after awhile because there would be no way to 'improve' your toon.

Well it didn't take you long to contradict yourself there.

How do you think the EVE landscape would change? Would the game be more fun, more enjoyable without time based improvement? How would you change your gameplay?

I suspect that one of the most important things a change like this would do would be to reduce people's attachment to their characters. The level of investment would be lower because there is no loss involved in transfering all your stuff to a new alt and abandonning the character who committed a huge corp theft, perpetrated a huge scam, or even just has security status or standings lower than you'd like.
This would probably lead to a shift in demographic from the RPers and strategists towards the FPS player. This in itself would probably mean more fights.
The ease with which significant gains could be made would probably lead to a shift in perception with regard to ships and equipment, making them seem more important in the short term but more ephemoral in the long.
And with no significant investment there would be far less to stop people quitting, far less to bring them back after a long absence... I would invisage a far greater turnover of players and therefore far greater need to attract new players, the subscription model would probably fail quite quickly and a free-to-play model with gold ammo would probably reduce investment even further.
I doubt I'd still have been playing after the first time I got "kicked out" of 0.0 TBH...
