GW2 wasn't out the last time the data I'm using was updated. It's also not a subscription-model game. You buy the Box and that's it.

Which is why quoting numbers goto the source.

The point being is EvE has 500,000 active users, but not all 500,000 are actual humans. To play alts (other than throw aways) you have to have an account for each toon. So the actual amount of players is lower. 50,000 online at least 25% of them are multi accounts online.

BTW, EvE runs on the F2P model. You can play the game for free by buying PLEX. It's how many of those alt accounts are paid for (most don't pay EvE via subscription).

You would have flipped your **** playing early EQ 1 lol

At least in EVE you can pay ahead of time before you lose your "experience" ... and it's easier to not die here.

I played EQII and they still have that mechanic. A player could delevel if they're not careful, and even maxed leveled still have to pay the death XP/AA tax. It's why raiding there is a tad more serious as it has consequences (let alone nasty repair bills and repair mechanics...max repair with kits is 50% and armor damage lower the stats).

And hey, that's PvE. ;)

GW2 is still not a Subscription-model game. So it has 0 Subscriptions.

In the absence of other sources (which is pretty normal for MMO sub numbers), MMOData is the best availiable.

500,000 Active Accounts. Assuming 2.5 Accounts per-person (which I think is high), on average, that's 200,000 individuals.

The number online at any given time is not indicative of the total number of active people. (Because the entire server population is not online at once.

So... you don't know how PLEX actually works. Good Fight.

(Hint: CCP doesn't give PLEX out for free.)

TBH, everyone just learns to not make this mistake, just the same way that you remember to put your seatbelt on before you drink and drive. Unfortunately, there are some people who simply aren't quite capable of always remembering. As such, you really do just have 2 choices. 1) Call a cab. Err, get used to the SP loss, or 2) Eve just isnt the right game for you. =/

Pretty much this. ^

Get used to the loss, get a better memory, or move along. All viable choices.

why even bother with this mechanic instead of just having it automated?

more choice is better, if you want to devalue your SP so that you can get in a cheaper clone, there should be a fundamental option for that. Thus is born the necessity to buy a clone post each mortem.

Granted you never forget your pants when you go to work, but EVE online is an attention oriented game, attention to detail.
