Hey everybody

I have started my trial a couple of days ago, and i feel like i am ready to get out of the safety of the rookie zones. I have some questions regarding piracy in the game.

First, how do you actually find miners? I know there are combat probes, but my current ship can't fit the launcher needed because it doesn't have enough CPU power. I have tried toying around with the directional scanner, but i don't know how to actually get to targets once i have their position narrowed down - Can you click on the sidebar / F11 map to warp to a specific point in the system.

Quickest way to find miners, warp to a belt. Most will be there, you'll find some in grav sites but belts are always a good bet, especially within 3 jumps of a trade or mission hub (Rens, Lustrevik and Hek in Minmatar space). Have a play with the map, the filters are incredible. Given that you're in a frig, you'll be killing other frigs and ventures (if you can catch the thing).

Accept that you'll explode a lot, then post your adventures in here.

Other people are much more qualified to answer your other questions so I'll refrain P though I would suggest going for a catalyst if you want bang for buck

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

If you are specifically looking for miners then set up your overview to include asteroid belts or better yet, make a new overview tab for belts only. Use 360 degree d-scan at max range to check if there are any miners in range (note that you might have to warp around larger systems since range is 14.something AU).

If any are on scan reduce the d-scan to 5 degrees, toggle camera tracking by pressing 'C' and scan each belt. If you find one in the belt just warp to it. Unless you are using a cloaky alt it will be hit and miss whether they are in tackle range when you land.

There are refinements where you can incrementally reduce d-scan angle to more quickly narrow down a particular belt but this depends on how many belts are in system.

Also be aware that a lot of mining ships on scan will be in a POS. Consider adding force fields to the d-scan overview.
