So after a month straight of hi sec Indy I am sick of the carebear life having a old hound laying around i fit her up and set a course into null sec. After a few hours flying around and escaping gate camps I find a good system to play in looks like a German Indy corp settled system and immediately the locals turtle with me in the system after just a mere minutes it seems they are all docked up except a rorqual. So i parked outside the station... watching a wolf warp to zero then back towards a belt I knew they where trying to get the rorqual docked up.... but i also knew i didn't stand a chance popping a ship that big with a wolf around so i sat andwaited sure enough it warped to zero and docked.... finally a cerberus undocks sitting right in the funnel of the undock I react quick.. bomb away lock target.... target invulnerable? ? Wtf I bank hard left to get my transverse up and align to safe lock target again it locks only 40 percent shield down? ? Ok expecting a bit more but oh well.. scram web paint first volley away hits for 40 wt.... at this point with no retaliation another volley away again 40 warp out to safe wait and then back in to dock... so what's the deal I thought Torp volleys where devastating did this guy have that much resist or are my skills that bad

Skills are bad, both in-game and out-of-game. Some things you need to consider:

1. Torpedoes are designed to hit battleships and caps. You are hitting a cruiser. That's really freakin' small...torps even struggle to apply proper damage to battlecruisers. With all skills to V I still get roughly 70% or so of my "paper" DPS when shooting at shield-tanked battlecruisers. Now imagine something much smaller like a Caracal.

2. Bombs do damage based on racial modifiers...hopefully you were using your correct racial bomb. Secondly the same applies as above: They are designed to hit things with larger signature radii. Cruisers have a small one compared to the larger juicy targets.

3. You failed to know how your ship's weapons systems even worked before undocking. A grave mistake.
