Null sec alliances, questions

Hello there! I've been playing the game for a little while now and there are some things I've witnessed but not really understood.

Since it's a sandbox and the game is designed to have players fight each other it's only natural that there will be some hostilities out there, often more the bigger difference there is between the players. An example is players who live in null sec and players who live in high security space.

There's a lot of 'hate' on certain alliances. The best example must be Goonswarm Federation. I've been reading a bit about them and I just don't see what would fuel this hate.

Could some people here please help me find the reason for this? Without boiling the thread with additional hate please.

Keep it civil!

They hate us because we are free.

Every time you post a WiS thread, Hilmar strangles a kitten.

they are the minions (goons) of some dude called lowtax who uses them to take down random websites for fun.

goons are reviled in whichever game or internet community they show their faces (except for lowtax's own forum - and because that's the only place they can go without being hated he gets away with charging them real money for forum accounts and functionality such as being able to use search, write PMs or access old posts).

And why is it people hate them in this game? I don't see how they are different from any other alliance and I have hardly even seen them myself.

I thought people hated on Goons because it costs $500 million to join their corp.

Which, to be honest, is pretty steep for a new character but very manageable for characters after a couple of months (or just one PLEX!)

P.S. Totally worth every penny.

I am not an alt of Chribba.

Because they don't subscribe to whatever assumed rules and cultural conventions that people think that they should subscribe to according to some random “good EVE citizen” dogma. In particular, they will antagonise anyone who treats a game as serious business or important in any way.

This will be a good read to answer your question.

dude called Smoske died in a car accident, his father posted an eulogy on these forums, people were sad because he had been a nice dude and had contributed a lot to the community (it's thanks to him that we have eve killboards) - and goons felt the need to dance on his grave.

when the roles were reversed last year, goons showed that they themselves are surprisingly thin-skinned when it comes to people making fun of their rl deads.

thats a skewed way of putting it, one that makes the Goons seem like your typical disney movie outcast protagonist while the rest of EVE are the mean posh folk that look down on the poor Goons for not meeting their high standards.
Not biased at all.

Goon alt detected? I think so.

This is a better example of why people dont like goons.

BoBwins Law: As a discussion/war between two large nullsec entities grows longer, the probability of one comparing the other to BoB aproaches near certainty.

Not particularly, no. It's just the way goons have worked in every community they've mingled with since the early Triassic era of the internet: be deliberately and actively offensive to the general custom, and mock anyone who isn't equally counter-culture.

personally i don't like them because they make ****** posts on forums. It's very rare occasion when someone from goons posts something smart and useful. Most of the time people with mark "goon" can simply be ignored tho.

Complains about bad posting. Is a really bad poster.

Hate is a pretty strong word for it.

People that cheat by having friends magic BPOs, favoritism of GM to reimburse loss would generate hate.

A displeasurable experience in the game because your client closes when faced with a smallish fleet of their blues is about the sum of it.

EVE just can't handle them all in one system / grid at the same time

Thought of another way:

If every time *I* joined your counter strike server, your sides guys disconnected, would you enjoy that experience?

If you're about to type "yes" you really are a bit special

Thing is CCP wants this idea of 1,000s vs 1,000s in epic fights.

What we see however is 2,000 vs 500 disconnections ... But we love CCP and running to less foolish experiences is viable.

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

Built by CCP

As for hate, I really hate Goons because of their body odor. Also, Your people often use cheap after shave and cologne to cover their body odor and that stuff makes my eyes water. Nasty.
