My buddy dueled someone last night and got attacked by the guy and his buddy.
Is that supposed to happen?
2 on 1 doesnt seem right but I have no clue.
If you lose do you actually lose your ship or is it like other games where you lose but keep your stuff?

1. stupid name + stupid corp name = likely troll (points for not being in teh NPC corp tho)
2. over a year old asking n00b questions = likely a troll

assuming that you aren't a troll ...

2v1 is completely fair (if you're in a "fair" fight, someone did something wrong). That said, the duel mechanics are new and I really don't care enough about them to have read how they work.

When you lose a duel, you lose your ship. With that said, if it was a "duel" between two (well, three) corp members, none of the "duel" mechanics matter and you can fight as asymmetrically against your corpies as you want without any CONCORD intervention.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

oh no, I'm still saying you're likely a troll ... but gave the details on the off chance you weren't

... forgot to mention -- if he started the "duel" by canflipping, then he went blinky yellow (KOS) to everyone in system. So you may want to read up on the Retribution crimewatch changes

There is no arbitrary game mechanic (outside of a few instances) in EVE that stops anyone from attacking anyone, including dueling. Dueling was put in place to get rid of that dumb as jetcan mechanic for starting fights. Nothing more, nothing less.

Instances that keep you from attacking someone else:

POS Shield
Dock
Cloak
In Warp
In Jump

Everything else is fair game

And as normal, a dozen posts of trolls flinging poo and no one actually bothering to actually answer the damn question.

Person accepts duel challenge, is suddenly attacked by two people at once. Is this a bug or "working as intended?" If the latter, what mechanic is used to bring extra people into a duel without CONCORD intervention? If the former, when is it going to be fixed?

Why should such a simple question be so difficult?

Yet even I don't know the answer for it.

My theory is, when someone asks a question like that of the OP, it raises an issue. And if it's in the mechanic that you accept a duel with someone, and in come their friends and you get blapped, and asking about it in the forums gets you flamed, then possibly those doing the flaming are the ones padding their killboards with said mechanic and are in the forums metagaming their newfound e-viagra for their e-peens.

Chances are the crime & punishment forum will have a better answer and they do like to game this sort of thing (though they will not hide the fact they game it, and would sooner call out questionable mechanics than play whack-a-mole in the forums to protect easy kills).

Yeah right. You removed some but you left the initial personal attack / troll remarks that started it all.
And I quote:

2. over a year old asking n00b questions = likely a troll

I'm expecting this reply to get edited as well.

ah, but those are two valid points as to why the original first response (since removed) was to the effect of "0/10, nice troll post".

though yeah, since that post was removed, those look a lot more trollish. meh.
