Medium vs Large Pos (High Sec)

I currently have a small pos used for research/invention and is perfect for my current needs (2 man alt corp) and I'm quite happy to have no defences and just rip this down under a wardec.

I am however looking to move into bringing manufacturing Components, Capital Components and Freighters out to the POS for the time saving. What I'm unsure on is whether to go for a Medium or Large mainly in terms how much of a potential target I would be with the additional arrays there. A medium would be perfect for my next steps. If I was to put up a medium or large I really wouldn't want to take it down under a war dec so I understand a large can easily be made into a real bore to take down where players would be unlikley to bother but how does a medium compare?

Figure out what modules you want to have onlined, and use a POS planner to find if they fit on a Medium POS. If they don't use a Large POS.

Then figure out how many ECM modules you can fit on your POS and anchor at least that many. The risk of a wardec to take down a POS is generally pretty remote even without defenses.

If someone does RF your POS, just wait for it to come out of RF and unanchor and ship out your internal mods, and let them kill the POS. (Or better yet, tear out the guts before the wardec goes live.)

Once problem you will want to consider is that a freighter job will take 8 - 10 days to manufacture (in a POS IIRC its 6-8 days?), and if you cancel a job you lose all the minerals. A medium POS also only has 3,750 CPU and 1,375,000 power (medium caldari) and the large ship assembly array will take 1,000 CPU and 300,000 power not leaving you much CPU to defend it if you're wardeced.

A POS with just research labs will be ignored because it is assumed there is nearly nothing of value, but a large ship assembly array is only used for Ore storage (for mining ops) or manufacturing Battleships, Freighters and Industrial Command Ships, so players might decide its worth the grief and or blackmailing.

Griefing & blackmailing for an online pos that has ecm+guns anchored is very very rare.

I started with a Dread Guristas Medium, and switched to a plain Caldari Large about one month later. I've had the POS online for several years now, and through several wardecs; during that time it was at risk of attack twice, and both times the wardec was retracted because we were prepared to defend.

A medium isn't very defensible, but is far better than a small. Nobody attacks a large unless they are very determined.

Regardless, never anchor what you cannot afford to lose.

Thanks all for your replies.

I had used the POS planner and had managed to configure what I needed using a caldari medium. I think with the fact though that having a large ship assembly array could attract attention and if i did rip things down I'd lose minerals and be out of pocket I'm going to have to go with a large tower. I'll stick with my NPC station slots for now though :D

Thanks again.

If you're choosing between a medium and a large, I would go with a large. The fuel cost will double, but powergrid, cpu, and EHP will all double as well allowing much more versatility and protection.
